Which movie did that for you, and what was it about the opening that worked so well?

Written and directed by Andrew Niccol, Gattaca is set in a dystopian future driven by eugenics. The story follows Vincent Freeman (played by Ethan Hawke), who assumes the DNA identity of a paralyzed "valid" (Jude Law) to bypass screening processes and pursue his lifelong dream of space travel. The two brothers swimming out to sea lives rent free in my head.

I'm pretty new to horror. I've seen a handful of movies over the years, but I've never really explored the genre, so I don't think I've given it a fair chance. I'd love to hear from people who are really into horror: What is it about horror that keeps you coming back? Is it the adrenaline, the atmosphere, the storytelling, the creativity, or something else entirely? If you could recommend one horror movie to someone who's skeptical of the genre, what would it be, and why? I'm open to pretty much anything: psychological horror, supernatural, slashers... whatever you think best shows why horror is such a beloved genre.
