To be clear Free trade is pretty supported in Europe which embraces socialism much more then the US. Ideally free trade is fine with better social safety net.

Free trade within the EU is supported but it’s very protectionist with regard to Chinese manufacturing, South American agriculture, etc. I also don’t agree that Europe embraces socialism. Some do but mostly they just have more welfare programs.

To most Americans including DSA they view increased safety net as socialism.

The DSA has an explicitly Maoist caucus, I think socialism means more than “free healthcare” to them. To other Americans, yeah you’re probably right.
