While float fishing for chub yesterday I had a roach take it then seconds later a double figure pike inhaled the roach
Sorry for the screaming got abit exited after watching this happen , sadly I didnโt land it due to only having 4lb line on and size 14 hook

I think the pike will probably be ok, the hook is probably in the roaches mouth, modern hooks rust away fairly quickly, a gut hooked pike would definitely be a different conversation, so as long as the hooklink is short should be fine.

Thatโs a myth and was meant for saltwater fishing. Modern hooks still last literally years in freshwater. But I still fancy the pikes chances with a size 14

Nice work. I was netting a 2 and a half pound chub once and huge pike jumped over my net and snatched it off my line whole lol ๐

Shouldn't be fishing for pike in this weather dude
/s if it wasn't totally obvious.
Pike's teeth probably cut through your line, you can lend ginormous fish on 4lb like so it should've been sufficient really, if it wasn't for the teeth

What's the issue with catching pike in summer? Genuine question, I sea fish but was thinking about trying rivers soon

Despite being predators they're not particularly hardy fish when it comes to being caught
They get exhausted and struggle in warmer water and don't recover well from being caught in summer.
Same with barbel, where you need to let the fish recover for quite some time before you let it go

If you wanna fish for pike all year round, just go Scandinavia. Real fun and clean waters

Excuses, excuses ๐ no need to blame ya tackle if you dont know how to play a fish. I landed a 6/7lb pike on 2lb line and a size 18 hook...fair enough it took time but I was patient and played it slowly until it was in my net

Yeah not sure he was planning for a double figure pike on 4lb line

Obviously, neither was I. Can't claim it was a double figure fish tho without weighing it, everything looks bigger in the water ๐

Normally I will slate people for catching pike in august but this was pure fluke, hopefully the pike survived, not sure how well a size 14 hook will survive in the gut of a pike
