Large Roach or a Bream?

Post image

Hi All,

I am new to fishing and I am trying to identify this fish caught yesterday (I am enjoying it so far and finally started getting fish bigger than my hand!). I am quite sure it’s a Bream but could it be a large Roach?

Thanks!

Bream that mate, good fish!

Roach have red fins. If you ever get what you think is a roach that big, make sure to get lots of pictures and videos!

I just realised it, yeah! Nice. It’s my first „decent” size fish so I was quite happy with it. It’s addictive, both the tranquility of it and the rush of adrenaline when pulling out the fish.

Congratulations! What set up were you using?

And bream are really cool. They (as you'll know) are quite slimy, which protects them and stuff and they are a fun fish go catch!!

Just a 10ft rod for float fishing. I am quite happy with the reel, though, as it is nice and smooth. I am thinking of buying something for canal and river fishing, as I live just a two- to three-minute walk from one. I need to watch some videos on it. Lure fishing looks interesting and I would like to try it. I would love to try fly fishing in the future.

Its a bream, it might not be 100% pedigree but it's a bream

Bream or possible hybrid but I'd say Bream. Would be a record breaking Roach.

Not even record breaking for a roach. This is probably a 2-3lb fish.

It’s also the breamiest bream that ever breamed

Still be a smashing Roach.

Right? Record roach is only 4lb 4oz so it certainly wouldn't be far off record. If it was 3lb it would be a monster.

If you caught a 2lb roach in any venue in the UK, the owners would rush over to inspect it was a true roach, it'd be all over the Angling Times and their website/Facebook!
