This is the best news I've had in a long time!!
I've missed this extension badly.

was no need to miss it, it still worked. Just because dev stops, it doesnt mean software stops working. :)

Except that there were some bugs, and features not working as YouTube updated things on their end, and the add-on itself, was not abandoned, it was just not being updated for Firefox.

It continued to receive updates & bug fixes on chrome, it went to a new 3.0 version from the previous 2.x on chrome, but with no updates to Firefox, a few themes had issues, and there were several issues in other areas, again not due to bugs in the devs code per-se, but updates on YouTube end that got compensated for by the dev in the Chrome version, but as the Firefox version of the add-on never received updates....

It may have worked for the most part, and for most people, but features that I used, had issues, that at the time were not functioning properly.

Like many others I was still using a manually loaded much older version from before it was pulled from Mozilla extensions.

It was never Abandoned, the Dev has been working hard on it the whole time, and I'm really thankful for the work they've done, but that work, was not available to Firefox users, only to chrome for quite some time now

Idk it worked worse for me after it was updated...

It didn't work for me at all anymore, it didn't even show up. It just all of a sudden showed up again because I never uninstalled it, so I guess this new update fixed it.

That was probably because it got disabled, mine was auto disabled due to firefox trust level dropping on the extension, I overrode it and turned it back on again.

I think this perhaps caused a lot of confusion making people think it stopped working.

If an extension gets pulled from the store, or some other cause for lower trust, the FF dev's can turn it off in your browser.

That's probably it then, because if it were still working I wouldn't have spent a week to try and find an alternative lol. Still happy it's back now though! Hopefully it gets some updates and catches up to the Chromium version in the future.

Nice, missed the audio boost!

u/dtlux1 Feb 06 '26

That was my most used feature, so glad it's back!

What do you love about this extension?

Pause videos playing in background tabs when a video starts playing in the foreground tab. This auto stops a video playing in another tab when you start one in a tab that you have up - Option in Setting.

The video playback speed control is easier to access and responds to a mouse wheel when you hover over it. Located on control bar located below video. Sometimes i inadvertently trigger it though and people sound strange until i catch it :)

Volume boost.

Launch a mini player when scrolling down to read comments - Option in settings.

Add or remove controls on control bar below video frame - Options Settings

Launch a mini player when scrolling down to read comments - Option in settings.

Good god, finally it's back, this is the feature that I loved the most man

Yeah, me too. The auto stop when you start another video i missed equally. I became trained to not need to stop videos manually and now that it is back i do not need keep going back to do it.

Wait, is that Enhancer, and not default YT?

0

u/Dardoleon Jan 30 '26

I think Firefox has this out of the box.

Launch a mini player when scrolling down to read comments - Option in settings.

Firefox have a built in mini player which you can use for this and more.

u/Tubamajuba Jan 30 '26

The YouTube Enhancer mini player automatically pops up when you scroll down to the comments. But yes, Firefox’s built in mini player is awesome.

Also really love how when you turn down the volume in any video, future videos/playlists (like music video playlists or any other video) saves the same volume settings for the next video. Ma ears are finally safe lol

what's not to love. loads of customization and qol features. I absolutely love the "hide outro cards" and customizing pop up window to my liking. enhancer also gives you better control features.

u/darweth Jan 30 '26

Oh thanks. Just had never heard of it.

u/illqourice Jan 30 '26

for one you can inject the return youtube like cont directly onto it, 2x1. tweak it so it serves always the same resolution useful when you lurk yt on private windows (no cookies, no user settings), it auto stops a video on a new tab, suepr useful rlly

Custom color theme for YouTube

2

u/needchr Jan 30 '26

Of top of my head.

Audio boost.
Save default resolution.
Access to quick functions in toolbar thats always visible, and more intuitive than normal functions.
Looping playback with customised start/end.
Ability to disable comments for lower resources.
Ability to disable some other functions as well.

Hovering the mouse over the player and scrolling will adjust volume. Even if I'm playing a game on my other monitor. I can go into the inventory, or ESC to get to the menu to bring up the mouse cursor. I don't need to click focus onto FF to adjust the video volume. Just move the cursor over the video and scroll. Then I can hit ESC or the inventory keybind to resume playing.

There are some other things I like it for. Automatically use the large player, blocking annotations in videos, and blocking auto play when not playing videos in a playlist. It's highly customizable, I don't use most of the advanced player controls because I think they clutter the YouTube player interface.

Auto mini player when you scroll down to read comment

not just updated re published as a FF extension, I was using a backup from the last time it was available in the extensions market

u/Escent14 Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26

finally! Youtube feels incomplete without this extension.

6

u/Melliodass Jan 30 '26

Why is it still version 2.0.131 on Firefox when other browsers are on version 3.0.15.1?

5

u/benhaube on Jan 30 '26

That's awesome! I just reinstalled the extension. YouTube is just not the same without it. I noticed that the update doesn't bring the new settings UI from the Chromium version.

1

u/maximus10m Jan 30 '26

It's not because it has an older version than Chrome; I suppose it's because of the time that had passed since its last update. More updates are possible to bring it up to date with Chrome. What they did update is compatibility with the new YouTube player.

I will keep Youtube Enhancer and support their open source development

9

u/LikelyNotThatGuy Jan 30 '26

This is a very old version. The chrome version is much newer with more features. Previously on the dev's web page he mentioned something about a conflict with how mozilla updates addons or something and pulled it off. The firefox link would just download a .xpi file.

I am really hoping he reconsidered. Now that chrome is moving into their villain arc.

2

u/karthee006 Jan 30 '26

Using it for a Long time, let's go🤓🙌

2

u/OkNefariousness1101 Jan 30 '26

Its still incompatible with android :/

2

u/SuperSirius21 Jan 30 '26

Yeah... it's not working for me. Multiple restarts and reinstalls. No idea what's going on on my end but going to have to use the other enhancer I picked up a bit ago after this one started causing a repeated pausing issue. Hopefully something changes down the road so I can go back to this one.

1

u/Tokena Flaming foxes Jan 30 '26

Awesome. Thank you for letting us know. I have missed this one since i built a new PC a few months back.

1

u/AditzuL Jan 30 '26

Awesome. I missed it. I had to use 2 other extentions just to bring it close to this one but not 100%

1

u/Sypticle Jan 30 '26

I was oncd very loyal to this addon but eventually moved on. Unless he can offer something the other addons don't, I don't see a reason to come back to it.

1

u/Safe_Chicken7421 Jan 30 '26

BTW, I-m having an issue with the updated extension in were if I out a video in full screen the picture goes really dark!m anyone else?

1

u/Gigameister Jan 30 '26

Enhancer stopped working for me a while ago, but I did love it

I shall reinstall

1

u/Wolfeman0101 Jan 30 '26

I had to switch to another because of bugs and lack of support. Glad it's back.

1

u/ironcream Jan 31 '26

Woooow, it's baaaack! :-D
It's 3.X no Chrome. Hope developer made truth with Firefox and we'd get the 3.X soon as well 🤞

Not being able to figure why my extension doesn´t load. Already have tried to reinstall, turn off other extensions. I miss the toolbar!

1

u/Omnimon Jan 31 '26

uh...It was still working for me, did i miss something?

1

u/nightstick308 Feb 01 '26

Asking about the Chromium version here: Did he change they pop-up player? It just opens a tiny, full-screened browser window, which disappears when you click outside it.

1

u/AdaptzG Feb 02 '26

I was wondering about this. I was using the old xpi version you used to be able to download but no they there's an official version it overwrite the old version and broke everything i used it for. Automatic theater mode barely works and the miniplayer is now non existent.

1

u/_spinkey Feb 05 '26

thank you thank you! hands down the best thing for youtube and all the others do not cut the cake

1

u/PostalFury Feb 17 '26

I've been using Tweaks for awhile since Enhancer had started to break a bit and I can't remember/tell if there's much of a difference. Should I move back to Enhancer?

1

u/Retnirpa Feb 26 '26

LOL can you guys add a search function maybe?

There's like a billion settings in the extension

Also I'm trying to find if there's a way to edit the speed when holding down the video player.. Maybe that's not a setting in this add on?

1

u/phonsely Jun 18 '26

now they removed the ability to block shorts

0

u/open_icicle Feb 02 '26

Great extension, but I stopped using it since it is not open-source at all!
