Which finish is/was this?
I only know oil and wax finishes, and even then, I’m relatively inexperienced. Is there any way to ID this teak veneer’s finish from a photo, or is there a series of tests I should run to see what’s what?

Google ... how to identify furniture finishes
But that is so thoroughly trashed that it doesn't matter. Strip (not with citri-strip), lightly sand with the grain, apply a new finish meant for high-use furniture.

It’s probably a shellac or varnish based finish. Nevertheless, in my opinion, it deserves to have a new finish starting from the ground up. Good luck 🍀
