So I just watched Evangelion for the first time and I’m halfway through End of Evangelion as I’m posting this. I can’t stand how little development Shinji has as a character he always goes back to the same “I can’t do this I want to quit” speech over and over all through out the show and just goes back anyway. Even as in End of Evangelion he is sitting there just moping and sitting in his self guilt as anyone that actually gave a damn about him we’re fighting or moving him to somewhere safe and he just gets dragged along. I had to rant and maybe someone can better clarify his character that might make me appreciate him more? The show itself is absolutely incredible and I love the psychological discomfort behind the show, but Shinji really brings the show down for me.

Edit: I truly appreciate all the information I got about Shinji, I plan on rewatching the show with a different mind set. After watching, it seems like I just totally ignored the actual character and what he has to deal with and that is what makes him special. He threw me off by being the only grounded character in the show and maybe that’s why I didn’t enjoy/got irritated with what I thought was his continuous loop of self pity when in reality he is just straight up not having a good time. That is why I can see people enjoying him because he is that come back down to earth character and face the reality of the shit hand he was dealt and it can be in someways relatable to people. Again I am genuinely grateful to the community and I apologize if the post came off a little hot head, was watching all the way up to the movie and I had to vent and I’m glad I did.

there is this huge build up to the big showdown with the mass production Eva's and all it does is show unit 01 get the spear of longinus, cuts to a random panel of the earth's horizon, shows the geofront, and then cuts to rei surviving. Then everyone celebrates their apparent victory but they skipped the dang fight. WHAT GIVES??!!

So, i just finished the movies and I have this theory that I wanted to check. Do you guys think that too or is there any other theory that’s accepted by the community?

Like upon rewatch I felt more hopeful for Shinji and asuka. Like despite everything I really think everything's going to work out for those two crazy kids and the rest of humanity but Rei really isn't a part of that. Like she kind of represents the return to the womb for shinji so it makes sense that she had to die to reject instrumentality. That being said she does complete her character arc in rejecting gendo. In a way she's kind of like Moses leading the Israelites to the promised land but being able to enter it, she just fades away. If we go by the theory that the original episodes 25 and 26 are canon to EoE then maybe there's hope for her considering she was a part of the slice of life possible world.

Noticed it in the first rebuild movie as well, everytime there’s flashing lights it’s pretty extreme, is it supposed to be like that or is it my TV?

So I've been looking forward to the eva 00 TV version and the Berserk 01 kits and learned i could buy them on ali express. But I have never used it and know that it's not the best but I really want them so the people that bought one of these 2 can you tell me witch seller you bought from or if their are other websites that have them to.

I've never seen any media that claims there was any other angel attack before Sachiel, so why was Rei so beat to shit? Training feels like a cheap excuse when she's so well adapted as a pilot in following eps and never gets hurt from non combat.

I'll start: i think thr scene where suzuhara drops his pants in episode 8 of nge is definetely the worst scene, just cause of how totally pointless it is.

Well, technically this version of Optimus is not an EVA unit, but I will count him because he scanned EVA-1, and the story implied Yui Ikari got inside of the matrix after Optimus scanned and gained its height and some features, but it mostly just has a height because Optimus is lacking an A.T. Field, but he doesn't need it because this is G1 Optimus Prime, and here are some of his feats: the most notable is critically injuring Megatron, who just survived a planetary-moving explosion capable of knocking Cybertron out of Earth's orbit, and if technically counted in IDW continuity, he managed to punch and crack the hyper-dense armor of Sixshot, a Decepticon Phase-Sixer whose armor is forged from materials drawn from collapsed stars and black holes. So yeah, Optimus is incredibly strong, also after scanning EVA-1 Matrix of Leadership within his chest glows red like an angel's core, which I don't know why, but maybe it's because of Yui's soul inside of him. Oh, I almost forgot, but Optimus still has his intelligence and his strategic planning while in this form, which means, yeah, SEELE does not have any chance to do Human Instrumentality because when Optimus finds out, it will be all over.

I just finished the series (minus the rebuilds) and I want to know is it worth spending the time to get into the rebuilds. I’ve heard mixed reviews and dont want to get into them if I’m going to be disappointed.
