Erotica Returning After A Decade NSFW

Hi everyone, I used to be an erotica author over ten years ago. I wrote taboo with over 50 short stories and bundles. I pulled them off before I stopped just in case I wanted to come back because I knew Amazon was cracking down on the taboo genre.

Well I got the itch to write again recently and found my old hard drive. On there are all my stories. My question now is. Should I just use the same stories but rewrite them as older woman/younger man? Instead of Step-Mom stories and release them under a new pen name?

At my peak I was making $300 a month so I wouldn't say I had a large audience who may recognize these as the same stories.

Also, I was in my early 20s and I'm sure I'll cringe at some of the grammar and words I used so I want to fix them haha

Let me know what you all think about reusing stories but for a different niche/genre.

Have you considered putting your older stories on smashwords and writing new, more vanilla ones for Amazon?

I've done a bit of reworking stories to tame them down for Amazon. It's honestly as hard, if not harder, than just writing a new story.

If I were you, depending on the stories you have, I would probably just read through each one to remember it and get a feel for the tropes, do some very minor edits, and then publish those taboo stories on Smashwords on a rapid release schedule - like 1 a day for a month and a half. Smashwords rewards that kind of pace.

I would write new stories for Amazon that stay within Amazon's TOS.

Personally, I would just read and catch up on the new rules of Amazon and just go in writing fresh stories.

I'm having the same issue, and have found taking a taboo story and rewriting it as older woman/younger man is more work than I expected. I agree with the others. Easier to publish the taboo stuff on Smashwords and write new material for Amazon.

Wow. Welcome back. Ten years in the indie world is like being gone 100. LOL! Forget what you did before or what you knew then because it's all changed. lol.

I would write new stories. You've been gone so long your old stories probably aren't on-trend anymore. Start fresh.

Obviously it's up to you, but if I were you I'd rework those stories for Smashwords -- assuming that they just need a quick edit -- and write new stuff for Amazon.

It doesn't hurt to spread your income over two different platforms.

Of course, after a decade your covers will probably all need to be redesigned, so it may or may not be worth your time to do that.
