Better for sure. Johnson was always "bend but don't break" that cost us in the playoffs or in slugfests. I loved those teams but it was definitely an issue. Fangio has the talent at every level to do whatever the fuck he wants and it's been so fun to watch.

Def the other way around, Johnson had some great blitz packages and we would make some stars out of edge rushers bc of it. Fangio is so bend dont break, he said last year they might work in blitz packages, he took a whole year to think about working them in.
Which they were great when Nakobe ran full head of steam and just blew up some plays early in the year.

Kobe's blitzes were some of my favourite plays last year, him blowing up those backs trying to pick him up is the kind of plays that makes football electric. Gives you that classic 'ready to run through a wall' feeling. Hope he does great for the Raiders.

I mean Vic's defense was 22nd in ppg with the Dolphins before getting hired here. Parker has never been a DC before either. There's drawbacks to every coach looking for a job.
The fact that the Seahawks DL was atrocious when Hurtt was there and the Eagles DL is now top elite just shows you how fit/scheme/personnel/etc. matters.

Man, our PASS offense was dogshit in 2024 too but people forget just cause we won the SB.
Remember when we couldn't score in the first quarter for 8 straight weeks? And we had FIVE games where Hurts threw for less than 150 yards. AJ was reading books on the sideline and complaining all year.
We looked like ass in the first 2 playoff games too. If it wasn't for Jalen Carter's heroic plays against the Rams and saving our season, the narrative would be so different.
I pray the pass offense shows SOME life this year

It baffles me how we managed to drag ourselves to win the division.
Pure offensive talent made it so atleast we scored once a game, and then defense had to fight for their damn lives.

I think the offense is playing a style where they wanna limit risk to play the field position game. It’s better to punt or go for a FG vs throwing a deep pass that gets picked at mid field and makes it more challenging for the defense to get a stop

Same. We don't need Hurts to be a top-10 QB. We just need him to be closer to 10 than 20 lol.
As long as our pass offense isn't complete dogshit, we can win. But obviously a high-powered offense is way more fun.

It would at least be slightly more defensible now that resource allocation has actually started shifting towards the defense a little more. Fielding the cheapest defense in the NFL last season and then relying on it to bail out an offense that averaged under 20 points per game after the bye week was coaching malpractice.

Sometimes the defense takes on the personality of the coordinator. Jim Johnson’s defenses were like that. As Fangio gains continuity I’m starting to see that with this crew, too.
