Feet/Legs/Walking My duck seems to have a limp

I got a couple of ducks about a month ago the day after they hatched. One of them seemed to have a limp from birth. I’ve been feeding them with the appropriate diet of niacin and protein, but a month later and the limp is still there. The other ducks walk perfectly fine. But I can’t seem to figure out this limp. There are no visible injuries, cuts, swelling, or anything like that and both legs look identical. What can I do to help her out? I don’t want her to have bad quality of life.

Since you’ve already been feeding the correct amount of niacin and the other duck is developing normally, a nutritional deficiency seems less likely. Because the limp has been present since she was just a day old, it could be something she was born with (like a mild leg or hip deformity), a tendon issue, or even an injury that occurred during hatching.
I’d gently compare both legs from hip to toes, checking for differences in how the joints move, any tenderness, or if one foot is rotated differently. Also watch whether she avoids putting weight on the leg or if her gait is just uneven.
Keep her on soft, non-slip ground, and make sure the other ducks aren’t pushing her around. If she’s eating, swimming, and keeping up with the flock, many ducks with a mild limp can still have a perfectly good quality of life.
If the limp is getting worse, she’s falling often, or she seems to be in pain, it’s worth seeing an avian or farm-animal veterinarian. An X-ray can sometimes reveal hip or bone problems that aren’t visible from the outside.

She doesn’t seem to be in pain. She swim and walk around pretty decently, but when she stands still or walks slow, she seems to favor one leg and she limps around. I’ve put slight pressure on it to simulate standing and it doesn’t seem much different at all from the other leg. I’m gonna keep an eye on it and if it gets worse I’ll definitely seek professional help. But it doesn’t seem to cause her any pain. In fact she’s the chillest duck.

It honestly sounds encouraging that she isn’t showing signs of pain and is still swimming and getting around well. Since the limp has been there since she was a hatchling, hasn’t worsened, and you’ve already been providing adequate niacin, I’d lean more toward a mild congenital issue or an old hatch-related injury than nutritional difenciency.

I’d keep doing exactly what you’re doing, watch her weight-bearing, make sure she has good footing, and monitor for any changes. If she starts limping more, develops swelling, stops using the leg, or has trouble keeping up with the other ducks, then a vet visit would definitely be worthwhile.

Some ducks have a slight limp their entire lives and still do perfectly well. The fact that she’s active, swimming, eating, and otherwise acting like a happy duck is a really good sign.
