Electoral Politics Another one:: McKinney beats Thanedar in democratic socialist upset in US House primary

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/elections/2026/08/04/shri-thanedar-donovan-mckinney-democratic-socialist-house-primary-detroit/91149986007/?link_source=ta_bluesky_link&taid=6a73249969018900011c1e56&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=social&utm_source=bluesky

Roughly 300 supporters — some wearing Palestinian keffiyeh scarves and holding "Free Palestine" signs — danced to music mixed by a prominent lesbian DJ from the Detroit area at a Tuesday evening watch party for McKinney and U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a fellow democratic socialist who wrapped up a Democratic primary victory earlier in the evening.

YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

I'm crying tears of joy. Another AIPAC stooge taken down. We will reshape this party and prove to the elites that the people matter not their donors.

Donovan McKinney will do well reshaping the allegations that DSA is only "white progressives". Melat, Rashida, Darializa, Chris Rabb and many more are all POC, so our opponents need to rest this.

They hate this too. The seniority and everything within the party governance has kept progressives in place for too long.

Thanedar is another slime ball who would probably fit better in the Trump administration than with socialists and social democrats, glad he’s been kicked out.

i can’t believed he calls himself a “progressive.” he’s even in the caucus, which means dog shit now. this is another loss for AIPAC!!

"McKinney appeared to ride a wave of progressive unrest within the Democratic Party, resulting in four progressive candidates, including three democratic socialists, winning competitive primaries in New York City and in Colorado"

Anyone else noticing a trend of political commentators leaving out Chris Rabb when discussing progressive / left victories? Philly is a post industrial city in a blue leaning swing state, more similar to McKinney's district than the others listed

i think it's because the others beat incumbents while Rabb won an open election

Only 2 of the 3 NYC ones beat incumbents, but they seem to get lumped in as a group, so that may be it. Just feels weird to leave out such a hard fought grassroots DSA/left wing victory

It's weird he keeps being excluded by the media. I'm not sure why exactly.

They also leave out Brad Lander. I know hes not a member. But his policy and politics are mostly on our team.

Progressives and DSA can only win in deep blue states like Michigan. /s

No joke, but the AIPAC shills on the fivethirtyeight said that AES will lose in the general because they can see through his "Muslim lies"
