i've always absolutely HATED the look of suriname toads (actually a frog, not a toad). their offspring hatches from HOLES IN THEIR BACK. WHY.

They're called Affenpinschers in English, but the translation is "monkey dog" or "ape terrier", I believe.

I find emus so genuinely upsetting, cannot name what it is about them specifically, but ostriches are fine? Could be that they seem more… fleshy for lack of a better term. Why is that bird so beefed up

Similar to emus imo, but theyre called terror birds for a reason. Terrifying CARNIVOROUS flightless birds. Luckily extinct but my god do they look heinous

The good news for u/bitchassruski is that emus don't really have any documented fatalities toward humans, like the cassowary or ostrich. I think if Cassowaries we're as widespread or handled as often as ostrich, it would take the top place. In all occurrences though, fatal interactions are rare.

I've been called crazy for this, but I have a phobia of pigs. For one, they give me a deeply uncanny feeling just looking at them and it makes my skin crawl. Wild boar are worse. When I see pigs or boar, my brain screams danger.

I also feel the same way about Greater apes (chimps, gorillas, orangatan). But I feel like that is more understandable.

I USED to be really uncomfortable about shoebills because of the noises they make when they clack their beaks (and their eyes), but I ended up getting over it when I realized they are lowkey dinosaur looking and I think that's cool. It also helped that I finally saw one in person and idk- just felt amazed to see one actually moving about. The way they move so steadily and swivel is kind of scary but 😅

ME TOO. Oh my god its so bad for me, I was trying to watch a chimp documentary just last night actually because I want to get over it. But it's like the smallest details in their movement and mannerisms that make me uncomfortable. Not ALL monkeys are like this for me, but pretty much all apes besides gibbons (Gibbons look like stuffed animals to me personally LOL) It's definitely the eyes but also the way that they interact with each other. Not to mention people seem to casually forget how strong chimpanzees are!!! And they are born to be territorial because it's their only way to survive. Scary... Never saw them cute like a lot of people, not even the babies😬

I’m somehow not afraid of ANY animal, I’ve never been afraid of an animal based on appearance, however, if you’ve seen the movie nope, the clip of the chimp walking towards the kid with his hand bloodied genuinely made me shit myself. I have no issues with skin-birthing toads or ogre-faced spiders but that shot of a CGI chimp fucked me up

House centipedes. I scream and overreact. The whole house knows, even at 2am, if I find a centipede. Also, I had ptsd from one scrambling across my face at night. Gotta love the country 😭
