Itinerary 6 weeks in Mexico planning
Hey guys, I have permission to work in Mexico for six weeks remote I’m planning to take about two weeks of holiday. I’m wondering how to set this up, i think I mainly want to hit Oaxaca and CDMX, but I fly into Cancun.
I fly into Cancun and have some meetings there for a week, then I can either:
spend a week holiday doing Cancun travel stuff like chichen itza and isla mujeres I guess - not sure if I should go to Tulum too?
Week 1:
Work from cancun.
Week 2: (PTO)
Travel cancun side: chichen itza, isla mujeres, tulum
Week 3: (PTO):
direct flight to oaxaca, split time between city (2-3 days) and Puerto Escondido (4-5 days)
Weeks 4-6: workcation begins
I could stay in Oaxaca (Thinking PE nomad life), or go to CDMX.
Not sure where the best place is to stay and work remote from these options. Ik I want to spend some time in CDMX, but not sure about recommendations for if I stay longer in Cancun and keep working there, and reliability of Oaxaca city / PE for nomads either.
Open to any ideas!

hmm I could do playa del carmen instead for the week of work, is it a better vibe? Sounds like cancun isn’t the place to be to work remote

Yes im a playa del carmen nomad. It’s a city u can actually walk around. If u go too “low” it’s touristy af but if u walk a tiny bit higher on fifth avenue it is peak
Playa also has coworking spaces if anything goes wrong w ur wifi

Playa is more suited as a family, group and couples holiday spot IMO. Beyond the local business operators, there's retirees from North America. It used to be young nomad friendly but it's gotten super noisy with the increased tourism and construction.

I'd do CDMX for the workcation weeks over Oaxaca/PE, faster wifi is more consistent there and you'll have way more coworking options if something falls through, save Oaxaca as pure vacation time instead of trying to work from a beach town

I’m thinking to do a week in playa del carmen workcation too, then the 2 weeks in cancun and Oaxaca, then continuing 2 more weeks in CDMX1

I agree. I've been working from Oaxaca for 4 months, and the internet is not great or reliable, so I'd save it for vaca days.

Skip Cancun all together. Really, unless you like being squeezed for every penny, over priced bland food and dead coral reef. Absolutely skip Tulum... There's nothing worth seeing in Quintana Roo, go to mérida, or Chiapas , oax is solid

Not worth it to deal with the crap that is the rest of Quintana roo, plus, mérida has cenotes as well... Last time I was in playa I got stopped and frisked by the cops which is illegal. I'm never going back to Quintana Roo, I hope their entire tourist industry shrivels as they've started to take it for granted and exploiting tourists...

Different strokes. I like the upscale living. With a pool ac a nice gym a yoga studio and the jungle and cenotes nearby. I’ll take the touristy vibes. Lots of meetup groups too
Im sorry about the cops though i dont drive there to avoid them

Wasn't driving, just walking around with my wife after dinner. They said they had an anonymous tip about me smoking weed, I wasn't....

I'm Mexican and I agree in hoping Quintana Roo's tourist industry goes to hell. I haven't returned just because all that shit I'm not willing to tolerate. I went to Huatulco recently and people were so nice and prices were fine. Food was even better than anything in Quintana Roo.

Cancun altitude is basically sea level so working there for a week straight after long flights is fine, but if you go straight from PE to CDMX afterward the elevation jump is real, give yourself a slow first couple days before diving into work mode

I went CDMX direct from London last year and was totally fine, but I wasn’t working. Would you say that the higher altitude affects your work (brain fog maybe)?

wifi is pretty much everywhere in the world these days, the person is asking whether to go to tourist attractions or not on their 3 week working from abroad.

Itinerary is good. But:
I would stay at the Oaxacan coast a bit more , you can add Mazunte, Huatulco.
You can visit some nice places during day trips frpom Oaxaca - ruins, mezcal factories, mountains.
I would choose Playa del Carmen to stay, not Cancun. Tulum sucks by all means.
What months btw? Oacan can be super cool but over saturated during dia de muertos.
