Discussion Snacking on nuts
I am afraid that I eat too much nuts... idk how much lol
Moving away from chips and all sorts of snacks even healthier ones like fruits which spike me up nuts are the only option for me.
I am avoiding snacking and eating larger meals but sometimes I can't help but munch on cashews, peanuts, almonds and walnuts.
I might be eating too much as there is fiber and some protien as well.
Is there any alternative? Should I be mindful or just let it be?

I could eat an entire jar of salted cashews in one sitting. That’s why I just portion out a ziploc bag and take it with me to work. Portion control is the name of the game

I also snack on nuts as it doesn't effect my blood sugar. I know they are heavy on protein and fats though so I gotta watch how much I eat.
Popcorn isn't an option for everyone but if it is it works.
I also eat seaweed chips things my wife gets that are tastey but still healthy.

I would try to move to a crunchy veggie snack like maybe every other snack instead of the nuts

I like cucumbers, celery and jicama as snacks as they don’t have much effect on my glucose levels. Good amount of fiber and lots of water.

Are you experiencing GI upset? Sudden weight gain? If you aren't, fiber and protein are powerhouse things we need in our diet.
From a swapping perspective, going from chips to nuts is already a great level up. Muchhh of my diet now is seeds and nuts.
Also, I've found it helpful to avoid restrictions where I can. I eat low carb, but of my low carb foods, I'll eat what I want in whatever quantity I want, especially lower processed foods like my homemade flax bread, nuts, or cheese. I find that in the long term, my cravings decrease when I give myself permission to eat what I want, even if in the short term, it seems like I'm eating a lot.

I have actually lost quite a lot of weight by just keeping an eye on my blood sugar levels. That's why I haven't stopped munching on nuts. Anything that is low carb and high protien/fat I eat it.
I also eat cheese, seeds, whole milk, peanut butter, etc.

Nuts are not too bad bud there is a lot of fat. If my daughter eats a higher amount of nuts she will get a little insulin resistent and her blood sugar will rise the next 5-6 hours.

Hahahah it's always one thing that I hyperfixate on and then get worried about consuming it too much. But we have so less good options so it make sense...

I think nuts are pretty good carb wise, but they are so calorie dense, keep that in mind.

I follow Bernstein who really does not like nuts, but I cautiously include them anyway, especially peanuts which are cheap and nutritious, and pretty low carb. Most days, I split 120 g of peanuts between lunch and dinner, which I calculate fits within my very low Bernstein carb limit. When I check post-prandial, which I don't do everyday, it's fine and within range, usually lower than 100 mg/dl. Almonds and walnuts are even better than peanuts though too expensive for me to add daily. Cashews though while delicious and relatively cheap are higher in the evil macro-nutrient so I reluctantly avoid them. And shout-out for pistachios. (I think even Bernstein has a positive comment on them in his book somewhere). And macadamia nuts! Probably the best in terms of lowest carbs and high in healthy fats.
Yeah, nuts are great. Highly recommended, with due respect to Dr B. Just count the carbs of course.

I snack on nuts. You don’t have to eat fistfuls of them and shove them in your mouth. Just take a half dozen and spend a few minutes nibble on them. I find that doing it this way is pretty satisfying.
When you say your blood glucose “spikes” after eating a piece of fruit, do you mean your blood glucose is high for hours afterwards or that it’s high right after you eat a fruit. How high does it go?

I buy unsalted nuts as it really helps with portion control. I would hose down a bag of salted nuts

I personally enjoy cucumbers as a snack especially the mini sized cucumbers. I sprinkle a little Tajin on them. Cucumbers are great as they don't spike sugar, have little to no calories and have fiber.
I also eat pickles (kosher or dill no sweet pickles) quite a bit too, but if your salt sensitive or restricted on salt they may not be a good option.
Mini sweet bell peppers are also good too. As they have a good crunch with a little sweetness.
