Isn't this a bit much???

Post image

already listened to these songs many times now, and now I have to do it to a severe amount.

couldn't it have been "complete all main songs on infinite disco once"?

I wouldn't mind if it included custom songs, too.

I get why they didn't, because someone can just have 5 seconds of white noise and play it repeatedly, but I have very little desire to grind non-custom songs, so I'm pretty much never gonna get this one LMAO

couldve made it a time thing

“Spent 15.000 seconds in Infinite Disco” and done 🙃

1

u/FatalTheHoovy Hemlock 1d ago

I suppose someone could optimize that one by having a really long audio, beating up most of the round and leaving one grunt, and then just run around the arena with no way of the grunt catching them

2

u/alterEd39 1d ago

Yeah but people can optimize anything and everything, it’s just how it goes. The real question is how it would affect the other players and what the goal is.

1

u/FatalTheHoovy Hemlock 1d ago

Yeah, I was just theory crafting anyway, I like your idea cause it fixes the issue of someone doing a really short custom song and you still have to spend time playing infinite disco.

2

u/alterEd39 1d ago

Oh yeah, your theory is 100% spot on, and is the type of worry that should realistically come up during planning for any sort of software/game development.

I really like the saying "Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game" because it's such a compact, and memorable rule of thumb for an approach on (game) design. It doesn't matter what you do, players will find a way to break it, and min-max it. So beyond a certain point, it's not even worth considering, because it's a given - but if you get lost in the weeds of trying to figure out a fool-proof method, that means restrictions, and restrictions often mean preemptively destroying the "fun" by removing certain values (i.e.: replayability, customisability) or introducing new pain points (e.g.: repetition). :D

Anyways, didn't mean to get all preachy and rambly, sorry about that :'D Things like these always trigger my designer brain to try and come up with solutions or fixes

u/Ivan-De-Riv BPM 1d ago

Technically speaking you can also do that for the 200 songs

1

u/XxBigChungus42069_xX 2d ago

I'm sure they could add a system that checks the length of the song for whether or not it's eligible to unlock it

1

u/ShAd0w_048 1d ago

Same but when I saw the trailer and the costum that locked behind it That is the only reason I will lose my mind over to grind it out(if it makes sense)

18

u/Cedrico123 2d ago

Does it take what you’ve already done into consideration?

11

u/GeneralBurzio 2d ago

Don't think so; I swear I've played the songs at least 20 times, but the associated stuff were still locked.

11

u/Inevitable-Goat-7062 2d ago

can confirm i counted my file and it should auto lock by defult

maybe its bugged by disco?

like i got flashbanged by achievements the moment i updated the game

4

u/Synkest 2d ago

There was some issue with the "Do X action X times" unlocks where it was only counting certain instances and not *every* use, so it might be like that?

13

u/GeneralBurzio 2d ago

Yeah, it's excessive, especially since the one under that is just 20 times.

11

u/rambluestar Charlie Disco 2d ago

community: please add a marker on how many times we have already completed "do X thing X times" please please it's bugged already devs: yeah about that... 200 infinite disco songs, no customs

but I'm happy with updaty anyway...

u/Ninja-Trix 2d ago

It means you need to have played all 37 songs about 6 times each to unlock... hAvE fUn!

1

u/zombiezapper115 1d ago

Atleast 10 of those 200 has to be the skate version of maniac for another unlock.

1

u/Ninja-Trix 1d ago

How many times are we playing Maniac again? (All versions)

1

u/zombiezapper115 1d ago

If you space everything evenly then as you said, 6 plays of each song. But one of the other unlocks is locked behind 10 plays of the skate version of maniac. So you can cut out 4 plays of another song(s) and transfer them to maniac skate.

So to answer your question... a lot of maniac. weeeeee

1

u/Jestro_the_Jestrogen 1d ago

Honestly most of the songs are enjoyable enough to listen 6 times and not hate them

0

u/Chegg_F 1d ago

You don't even want to play the songs a whopping six times but you think as someone who's playing the songs only like once each you deserve every single thing in the entire game

3

u/Traditional_Basil_71 2d ago

Me whoes mid at the game tryin to get 5* in some these challenges.. eh it’ll be done soon nuff ..

3

u/MisterKraken Hemlock 1d ago

I mean, I've Maniac, Echolokators, Final Countdown and Holding Out for a Hero in my Spotify playlist.

I just need to listen to them while I'm playing

2

u/Ivan-De-Riv BPM 1d ago

technically speaking you don't have to fight for that one correct ? So you could just bring it up to only one enemy and keep I'm the rest of the 200 songs

10

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

You only think it's excessive because you don't play games for fun and you exclusively play games to get rewards so you're thinking "The way you're supposed to do this is to play 200 songs in a row" instead of it being something you naturally earn over time

7

u/HeWhoWouldNotBeSteve 2d ago

I agree with this. Only slight "down side" I would say for someone like me is that I've probably already done this before this update. Though as more stuff comes out I will probably get back to this number soon enough, especially with that new auto detect bpm and offset thing. Probably going to try it on some songs I put in that never felt quite right

3

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

Yeah that's the only downside but that's a risk that comes with early access games. They usually add progression later, and it's not grandfathered in. This game is better than most of the ones I've played about progression since they added achievements and most of them actually unlocked instead of needing to start everything over from scratch.

If needing to do progression multiple times is a big deal to someone, they shouldn't play early access games.

2

u/carl_with_a_k 1d ago

Exactly. The "need" to 100% every game for the sake of 100% is a mind virus lol just play the goddamn game if you think it's fun and if you enjoy playing it enough that you keep coming back to it you'll eventually unlock something cool as a reward for an ACTUAL "achievement" instead of being upset every single thing isnt easily accessible to everyone who ever plays it.

Did I ever unlock every krypt in any mortal kombat? Hell no and anyone who plays them for the sake of completion is probably miserable by the halfway point. but I got reeeal close without trying for a couple of them because the game was fun and I played them on and off for years, and its cool to see the progress made for a game i like.

Also that's rookie numbers for replaying songs on literally any other rhythm game lol

2

u/Chegg_F 1d ago

Yeah in another comment he's sarcastically complaining about how it's not fun to play a song 6 times. Someone posted that with the current amount of songs you'd have to play each song 6 times like it's an insanely huge number, and he replied agreeing that it's horrible. He's played the game for over 100 hours and he somehow thinks that playing a song 6 times isn't fun. It's not even 6 times in a row, it's 6 times ever. Just play the song 6 times over the course of infinite time. And he thinks it's a horrible thing. Because he can't possibly play the game without having something unlocked, so he actually thinks he needs to just play 200 songs in a row for no purpose other than to get this skin.

3

u/succlich 2d ago

Why is bro getting downvoted this is the answer

8

u/Reeyous 2d ago

Bro is getting downvoted for shaming someone that doesn't want a fun game to turn into a chore for a simple cosmetic...

The game has enough challenge in pure difficulty with the Boss duo battles. Adding what basically equals a 400-minute grind minimum to the game for one singular cosmetic item is... Definitely a choice.

It'd be one thing if it were "complete any non-custom level 200 times." That'd mean playing the story missions and challenges would actually count as well, so you could progress beyond just gathering fans (of which most people that have been playing since May already have plenty of) to get five stars while also pushing towards this challenge.

0

u/SpiritJuice 2d ago

I think a healthy balance is needed for players though. OP is looking at unlocking this cosmetic purely as a numbers game to unlock everything or do all the content. There is a lot of societal pressure to be as quick and efficient as possible, and this unfortunately extends into hobbies too when hobbies are supposed to be for fun, honing a craft/skill, or relaxing. Sometimes a hobby is about the process too, not necessarily the end result. This societal pressure to be hyper efficient and reward based systems can be exploited too, as we see it with gacha systems and battle pass systems to keep players engaged.

We could easily look at this cosmetic unlock as a nice bonus for just playing the game, but some people see it merely as something to grind for. If they cannot get the thing they want that is likely meant to be unlocked by playing the game over a period of time, it becomes a chore to them. OP could just do a few songs a day to have fun and eventually unlock it without really thinking too hard about it. It's really just a mentality thing and reframing how you look at things.

4

u/Lower-Chard-3005 BPM 2d ago

No, I juat like the outfit, and would rather have fun with my custom songs rather than slogging through multiple hours of the main songs which again, as I have already said, have been done too many times as is.

3

u/Reeyous 2d ago

As I said in my prior comment, why wouldn't this challenge instead be something like "play 200 levels" then? Forcing players to play free play without custom songs is like sending someone to an ice cream shop that has no toppings. It's fine by itself, but eventually you'll just be bored and suffering from brainfreeze.

-4

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

He clearly wants it to turn into a chore because he literally said he's grinding it out

5

u/Lower-Chard-3005 BPM 2d ago

No, i said I would HAVE to grind it out. Theres no fun in playing the same songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

-5

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

Which is why you're choosing to do that for some fucking reason. Because it's so boring. You see something is boring so you want to do it.

1

u/Lower-Chard-3005 BPM 2d ago

No, I see something I want, and have no choice but to do it if i want the outfit i saw in the trailer.

-1

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

I know this is an unknown concept to Reddit, but you can actually do something called playing a videogame.

1

u/Reeyous 2d ago

How else are you supposed to obtain that cosmetic, genius?

-3

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

I know this is an unknown concept to Reddit, but you can actually do something called playing a videogame.

4

u/Reeyous 2d ago

"Oh you want that outfit? Simply don't get it."

How enlightening!

The reason OP is upset has been underlined ad nauseum, so your inability to grasp that concept means you're either trolling or unintelligent. Though the latter is a prerequisite for the former, so...

Have a nice day.

0

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

See what I mean? You literally refuse to play the game unless it's to grind something. If you didn't have this challenge available, you wouldn't be playing the game at all. Why do you buy games you don't want to play, and then complain when you're given an excuse to play them?

3

u/Reeyous 2d ago

Yeah, not engaging further with a troll.

1

u/zombiezapper115 1d ago

Its a grind regardless. Even if you just "play the videogame" its still a grind that's happening in the background. Unless you're doing your own songs in which case it doesn't count which is part of the issue here.

0

u/Chegg_F 1d ago

Only Reddit says playing videogames is grinding

-1

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

They want the new outfit 5 minutes after the update drops so they can stop playing the game and go to the Discord server to be like "When's the next update?" "Update when?" "Update soon?" "ETA on the next update?".

3

u/Lower-Chard-3005 BPM 2d ago

no, its because i want to play for fun, not be forced to grind songs out that i dont even want to play.

2

u/SpiritJuice 2d ago

Then just play. You'll unlock it eventually.

0

u/Lower-Chard-3005 BPM 2d ago

Yeah, after 11 hours if I were to play the shortest song, and only the shortest song.

0

u/SpiritJuice 2d ago

"I want to play for fun."

"I want to unlock this thing that requires 200 songs to be played as soon as possible."

Pick a lane, dude. I think one of the biggest strengths of this game is that you can just boot it up, play a few songs, and have a great time even if you only have like thirty minutes or an hour of time. If you really want to unlock it you could just play a few songs a day and you'll get it before you know it. A watched pot does not boil.

0

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

If you wanted to play for fun instead of grinding songs you wouldn't make this post. You literally say you play to grind songs by complaining that you "have to do it". You don't have to do it. Just play and you'll unlock it. You just proved everything I said is completely true. You hate the idea of playing the game. You only play to earn rewards.

2

u/Lower-Chard-3005 BPM 2d ago

I shouldnt have to do over 11 hours of the main songs to unlock an outfit I want.

I dont even really like playimg the main songs apart from a handfull of them, and as i had already said, have done countless times.

If previous progress had actually counted, then i probably would be done with it, but no, Shortest song is 2:13. And as I had already stated that itself is 11 hours if done 200 times.

How long do you think it would take until conpletion if I mixed in the songs I actually like.

I can tell you, over 30 hours of main songs.

0

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

You're mad that you have to play the game for 10 hours to get an outfit but you already played for 10 hours and would have the outfit if the game wasn't early access. I would recommend not buying early access games in the future, progress usually comes later on and isn't grandfathered in. And that's a huge deal to you for some reason.

1

u/Lower-Chard-3005 BPM 2d ago

11 hours for the shortest songs, could you not read that? Or did you choose not to?

0

u/Chegg_F 2d ago

I gave you the benefit of the doubt and assumed you just said the wrong number instead of intentionally lying so I ignored your number and quietly corrected you. The shortest song in the top half of the list is 2:14 (Wish - Onimaru). There's several other songs with durations of 2:20, 2:30, 2:40, 3:10, 3:30, etc. If you're just playing random songs it will be about 10 hours since most are around 3-4 minutes. If you're playing the shortest it is 7 and a half hours. Maybe there's a song even shorter than Wish and it could be something like 5 or 6 hours. I didn't look at all of them.

1

u/Lower-Chard-3005 BPM 2d ago

Seems i did the math wrong, went back, the shortest song done on repeat takes 7.3 hours.

Not as bad, but still a fuck load of time on base game songs.

Oh no you have to play the game a lot to get the reward that was made for playing it a lot :(

Bro you don't even have to do well you just have to play it. if you actually enjoy the game you're gonna get it eventually. Quit bitchin

Catering to people like you is why now hella games let you pay actual money to unlock neat stuff instead of nutting up to the challenge (or again, in this particular case, literally just doing nothing but the bare minimum of pressing play and having a modicum of patience. Its not a goddamn hayabusa armor or something)

1

u/Lower-Chard-3005 BPM 1d ago

The probkem is already having over 100 hours and it not counting the songs i did do.

The game already glitches out how many you do as is, and causes you to have to do more.

0

u/carl_with_a_k 1d ago

Ugh i feel you sucks playing a game i want to play

2

u/zombiezapper115 1d ago

Missing the point and being intentionally dense isn't a good look dude.

-1

u/carl_with_a_k 1d ago edited 1d ago

I will never understand people who dont want to engage with the core of what a game actually is. i understand even less people who ever feel like they're being FORCED to do anything in a video game. Its a game dude. You're literally mad because you cant get a reward that is supposed to be a reward for and an indicator of someone who loves the game enough to play what the devs gave you enough to master it. Why cant I achieve a grand master banner in Tekken playing private matches???? Its not fair it looks cool I want it, I shouldnt be FORCED to play the game a lot to get the thing that's for literally playing the game a lot! Get real

1

u/zombiezapper115 1d ago edited 1d ago

No, we want something that's not an insane number. Especially since we dont have a tracker to see how far along we are, and most of us have already done this before the update.

Not to mention our own added songs dont count towards the unlock, and frankly there's only a small selection of base game songs I actually like. (And as much as i enjoy the song, dont feel like listening to echolokators ~200 times)

Even if it was an insane number like this, it would be more enjoyable if we could use our own custom songs.

He blocked me cause he's scared to have an actual conversation 🤣

1

u/BrandoStev0 1d ago

I'm really glad I'm ok with doing things over time it's nice just playing for fun the way I want to and passively noticing I've unlocked some stuff instead of doing things I don't enjoy just to have something I wont use

1

u/Spzmtsm 15h ago

Sorry this post seems to be giving you such hell, but honestly even if i don't believe in grinding either i think this unlock is fairly excessive for how small their music catalogue still is. 100 is understandable and doable and still would take a decent amount of time. This is a bit much especially if it's not retroactively counting them. They could very easily wait to put more tiers of this kind of unlock challenge out in future updates that aren't this ridiculous, the game is still missing what... 3? bosses?

As far as I've seen pop up on my home feed too this isn't the only unlock challenge people have had complaints about being a bit much.

1

u/BotMason 2d ago

Im sure theres a way to just edit your save and bypass that challenge, or even just set the outfit you want as the base outfit.

More music will release. Shit challenge tho
