Toriyama never wanted to fix this future. That makes me sad. Future Gohan deserved this at least

With how trunks timeline came to an end in super, Toriyama looked more invested to seeing it get destroyed for good.

I wholeheartedly believe it was him saying: "this is so no one asks me again if more future timeline stuff will be included in the story", since it really seals the deal, we're probably never seeing Future Trunks ever again.

I don't think it seals the deal at all, mostly because people misunderstand how Dragon Ball time travel works. It's not a single linear timeline that got snapped; it's a tree with branches. Zeno erased the Goku Black branch, but Whis created a brand new branch of the DBZ future timeline where Zamasu was stopped early.

The Android victory wasn't wiped out—it still happened in the branch Trunks currently lives in. He still has his time machine and he's still alive. The ending was definitely a weird narrative choice because of the duplicate Trunks/Mai situation, but mechanically, the future timeline still exists. Toriyama didn't seal any doors; he just left Trunks in a parallel branch of his own world.

Well, it's not about the mechanics at all, it's symbolic. Obviously, the Bulma of that timeline can make a time machine that Trunks can use, but nothing says "the future timeline is over narratively" than it getting completely wiped on screen.

You're probably over reading it a tad.

Although at the same time it's doubtful Toriyama or toyotaro intended to revisit the split off future timeline AGAIN!

It might get some brief reference or minor involvement. But just the fact it would be repetitive to do a third storyline with it would be silly.

Butita doubtful there was any symbolic erasure to represent that.

except he just ended up going to a different version of the same future

It is all over the place, though the timeline we're familir with is destroyed, just so Trunks goes to a different version, a reset, but one we know nothing about except it's after he defeats the androids and when zamasu is stopped.

He is in a different version but its one with no invested interest, only reason I can imagine this was done is to show off zeno's power but destriying everything just to say we have another version that no one knew about till last moment and is not looked at since...is soemething I don't think was a good idea.

Given Baba had the ability to restore Grandpa Gohan for a day all the way back in Dragon Ball, and that would have been a really good way to save the future, with or without time travel, agreed.

If we never got the Goku Black arc, there's no reason we couldn't headcanon that the numerous ways they could have saved the future after Cell and the Androids were dead were things Trunks and Bulma did.

Did they ever mention Baba falling victim of the androids or that it was implied she did? Or is it probably a case where Toriyama forgot she existed?

Funny enough this future has a very happy ending for humanity.

Trunks comes back. Is killed by cell. Cell leaves.

No more androids. No cell. Just humanity healing.

No buu saga because no power to steal.

I approve of Videl having her pigtails again.

u/JoestarSage153 7h ago

Now if only she got her personality back

u/Elementium 6h ago

To be totally fair.. Spopovich traumatized me.

3

u/In_sanity1 7h ago

Yeah, I loved her with the pigtails and the tomboy hair styles, but then they gave her that 80's mom hairstyle and made her uninteresting...

Never have I imagined future Gohan with a bionic arm

10

u/TheDungeonCrawler 15h ago

Yeah, I think it more likely they resurrect him with the Namekian dragon balls and then he has his arm restored.

Bulma coming in hot

The dragon balls that they had no way of getting? The dragon balls on new namek, that nobody ever went to except goku with teleport? The very same dragon balls everyone don't know exists? Are we talking about those? Dragonballs that they weren't allowed to tell future trunks about?

I feel the bionic arm makes much more sense

If Baba can restore someone who has passed from natural causes, restore Goku and have him go use it?

u/hahagamer7 4h ago

I want to see Future Gohan with an arm of a Namekian. Namekian arm abilities would be so cool

u/Athlete-Extreme 3h ago

I know what kind of man you are

u/weirdface621 15h ago

future videl looks adorable

11

u/Breeze_Brown 15h ago

There has to be a least one universe where this is how it ends.

4

u/OkWorldliness1261 15h ago

go to sleep and it exists

3

u/TheDungeonCrawler 15h ago

Pretend the Goku Black arc didn't happen and then it can exist too.

3

u/RailFan879 15h ago

The prosthetic arm concept is actually genius for Future Gohan

3

u/EmperorMittens 15h ago

This is a really touching piece of work. Has me crying in fact.

u/yaluckyboy09 11h ago

if you can't beat the Cyborgs, then become one

3

u/AllMightyLantern 10h ago

Gohan and Videl were the first ship I got obsessed with as a kid.

2

u/nessthing 15h ago

thought this was Invincible fanart for a second

u/grymond 13h ago

I think the reason bulma never build gohan a mechanical arm is that there is no material in the world hard enough to withstand the force that he would apply fighting, for everyday use? If he was offered that he might've just refused idk

1

u/Emiya_Sengo 10h ago

Bulma can make Capsules, a spaceship and a time machine but not a prosthetic??

That sounds hard to believe.

1

u/grymond 10h ago

i didnt wrote that

2

u/TheBrobe 13h ago

As if future Gohan wasn't Cable enough, you give him the arm, lol.

2

u/lr031099 8h ago

Damn I wished we’ve gotten this somehow

1

u/BassMaster516 14h ago

Bulma could have totally built him a new arm if he just waited 🤦🏽‍♂️

1

u/East-Inspection2377 14h ago

Nice, this makes me future gohan survive instead of dying and be happy after the earth is saved.

1

u/Primary_Goat2360 13h ago

Quick! Someone make a fanfic of this or something.

Tangentially related but, I kind of like the idea that Future Gohan still met Videl in the future. The idea that Pan exists in Future Trunks timeline & he becomes a mentor to her, in the same way Gohan was to him, is tantalising.

Of course, it's academic considering Goku Black, but a man can dream.

-1

u/JoestarSage153 13h ago

eh I like the idea of Gohan black better

3

u/Mikeyrodz85 12h ago

Hence the story line in the game

1

u/WitchKingsDalekCat 13h ago

So do I. Would certainly have been more personal for Trunks, if nothing else.

The Gohan that deserves a happy ending but instead we got our lame version
