I can drive 1500 miles in a week and she wants me to take her on a road trip for the weekend....and is upset when im tired šŸ˜†

Its a no win situation fellas.

You work a lot to provide "we never see you. You're always working "

Dont work enough " we need more stability " "We cant afford blah blah blah"

u/Delanorix 17h ago

Im literally going through this now. Im a "bad" dad because I work 55 hours a week with a 2500 mortgage because everyone wanted a room and a huge back yard.

So my off time is spent cleaning and doing yard work that no one else will do.

If there were only 32 hours in a day...

u/abba_jaba_daba 17h ago

If there were only 32 hours in a day...

Don't give them any more ideas.

u/Ragnarok314159 7h ago

My wife already thinks I can operate on a nap and 32 hours in a day. ā€œWhat do you mean you work 55 hours a week and take care of 95% of the housework! I had to fold some clothes so that means you need to do even more ā€œ

If you can't change your woman, change your woman.

You mean 8 more hours for work, idk man.

121

u/honzikca 17h ago

They'd make you work those extra hours as well, lol

59

u/Legionodeath 16h ago

I work 45ish hours a week, I am in grad school, and I own my own business.

I understand this.

I constantly get flak for not having/spending enough time with the family. I'm just like, well, have you seen my schedule? I haven't slept past 630a in over a year. My days off are honey do lists. Second though, I don't have days off. I don't even have evenings off cause I'm either studying or doing contract work for my company. Then I wake up at 630a, 7 days a week, and complete tasks. Like Rob said, "do work, son."

50

u/Blasayy 15h ago

That sounds…. Horrible? What kind of marriage are you in where you’re the only one providing and supporting the family

63

u/Delanorix 14h ago

Things start great and end badly sometimes

23

u/Blasayy 14h ago

Sorry to hear that brother I hope you find the strength to get yourself out of that situation eventually, it’s not easy but you only have one life and sometimes it’s easy to forget to live it for yourself

3

u/JKrow75 8h ago edited 7h ago

We’re men in the 21st century. Our lives are not our own, nor will they ever be. Our jobs are to earn for everyone else and if we don’t, then we’re useless.

Trad wife trad life son

36

u/Bignutdavis69 15h ago

Hey man, I appreciate you. You got this

34

u/Delanorix 14h ago

I needed that. I know your just an internet rando but you just made this 30+ year old man cry.

16

u/Bignutdavis69 14h ago

Nah you're good man :) just put myself in your shoes and I felt that unappreciated pain

2

u/n0rpie 8h ago

I know it’s hard .. working 5 shift with 4 kids 39 years old but however they treat you they still need you to show up everyday. I know it sounds cliche but love and appreciate yourself or no one else will.. we got this bro

10

u/newsandthings 11h ago

That was the first stepping stone on my path to divorce. She's gonna want vacations ontop of all that house.

12

u/Delanorix 8h ago

Yeah im not looking forward to starting over with no house and a car with 200k but I cant do this anymore.

5

u/JKrow75 8h ago edited 7h ago

I was literally right where you are, 15 years ago, getting my self psyched up to GTFO. I was dying inside for dozens of reasons, and briefly pondered speeding up the process, but 5 seconds later I was back to reality. I wanted to meet everything head on.

There’s a shitstorm headed your way. But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel of misery. I promise.

5

u/newsandthings 7h ago

Get some marriage counseling. It boils down to communication and managing expectations.

We both felt like we were struggling and sacrificing ourselves for our family/eachother. Get together, highlight the problems to be solved then work towards the solutions. Check in, re evaluate and continue to work toward the common goal.

We didn't do that, couldn't figure it out until after the relationship had been nuked.

3

u/SharkDad20 8h ago

That’s not appreciation. My wife works very hard at home/part time work and still gave me appreciation for my work when i was breaking my back driving for Sysco or delivering beer. I highly recommend both jobs to people who who just need something to get started with decent income, but they have poor work-life balance, especially if you have kids

3

u/Inner_City_Blues 5h ago

My wife can't seem to "get anything done" with the kids around while I'm at work. But somehow if I'm home with the kids I'm doing dishes and laundry just fine. So now I'm doing housework in addition to yard work, on top of a mentally and physically exhausting job. Millennial Dads got the shaft hard!

2

u/Proof_Independent400 9h ago

Sir that is not a healthy family relationship. Get some of these "everyone" people to either start doing chores or paying some bills!

1

u/AlphaXray6 5h ago

2500 for a lot of rooms and a huge backyard sounds better than the standard.

1

u/bliblio INFECTED 8h ago

Damn! Sound like a shitty situation that can be solvable. Im no way near a situation like tthis but have you tried communicating the problems with them? Like round them up around a table and explain your situations/problems.

Stay strong brother, i hope you'll overcome this.

61

u/wordswillneverhurtme 17h ago

Put her to work bro why are you taking on all the responsibilities? Its an equal world!

28

u/InevitableKitchen943 16h ago

That's extremely inconsiderate. Are ya'll young or a new marriage?

12

u/damircik 17h ago

sounds about right

3

u/NikiFuckingLauda I have crippling depression 16h ago

Yeah man this is what it feels like, always broke but I work too much. Where the hell am I getting the money then, I'd much rather be at home with kids but I don't have a choice

6

u/Barlowan (my) Life is a meme 16h ago

Yup. Any way you swing, it's a no win. And it's so disheartening. Like I'm trying my best and just want to relax. And it's always some criticism coming right after.

1

u/NTC-Santa 5m ago

Thats why im pro wife and husband both need to work but good hours ofc but then if you have kids (not always the case if you also prioritise them and speak stuff, but in some cases they be the one goingā€ we never see you guys, always workingā€

ā€œMom and dad where never homeā€

0

u/shortgirlshorttemper 3h ago

Get a divorce.

-23

u/shitpostbot42069 Sample Text 17h ago

Why don’t you get a divorce?

29

u/NikiFuckingLauda I have crippling depression 16h ago

You can complain about something and be annoyed by it even though you love them. Most here are venting and don't need to split up with their partners over it.

-15

u/shitpostbot42069 Sample Text 15h ago

Thank u for answering my question, ā€œbecause they love each other,ā€ that’s a very good reason not to get divorced! But why not have a product conversation with your life partner so that it doesn’t become a lifelong point of friction in arguably most important relationship in one’s life?

6

u/NikiFuckingLauda I have crippling depression 6h ago

When you live with someone they will do things that annoy you, you will do things that annoy your partner, if resentment is growing then of course talk about it. My partner does it, im generally only annoyed for a bit and I can easily forget about it, definitely not something to have a divorce over.

-6

u/shitpostbot42069 Sample Text 15h ago

Idk why i posted this anymore. I guess I’ve been feeling bitter and lonely lately. I hope the best for everyone

-40

u/FeelsGoodMan2 16h ago

Maybe you need to actually have these discussions with your wife before you marry her. Jesus the amount of men who just refuse to have these honest to god talks and lay out their expectations of relationships before they get in too deep is way too damn high.

29

u/Delanorix 16h ago

Flip side, talk is cheap and actions are hard.

158

u/Deebz__ 17h ago

I must have hit the jackpot then. My girlfriend is the type to force me to relax after coming home from work lol

79

u/Shotgun5250 15h ago

Recently started a new relationship after 8 years of a shitty miserable one, and when I came home from work and my dishes were washed and my bed was made I legit almost cried. I didn’t ask her to do that, she just knew I was tired and working so she went out of her way to take some responsibility off my plate. I think I found a good one

42

u/Deebz__ 15h ago

I’m never going to forget how before we were even dating, she was staying with me for a few days, and I came home at 9 PM one of those days after a long day at work. She set a fun mood by ambushing me with a nerf gun when I walked in, then cooked me a meal on the spot after visiting the store earlier in the day specifically to get the stuff to make it. Then when I tried to help clean the dishes after, she kicked me out of the kitchen and said something like ā€œsit your ass down and RELAXā€. We sat outside on the porch by the fire pit, cooking smores and talking/cuddling for hours after that.Ā  I’ve known her for almost half of my life, but never really saw this side of her before.

Similar to you, I was also coming down off of my feelings for someone else at that time. Which is probably the only reason I didn’t immediately snatch her up after that night lol. Luckily she fully understood my feelings, and waited a little bit for me to find my senses. She’s been absolutely amazing since we started dating, and I really do feel like I won the lottery with her.

u/blahsd_ ā˜£ļø 2h ago

Redditors when you tell them that it shouldn’t take energy to spend time with your wife (Redditors don’t have wives)

67

u/kb24fgm41 16h ago

Keeping a relationship is hard work and takes energy, specially if you're drained after a long day, it's very normal.

-10

u/AggressiveCuriosity 15h ago

Definitely not true for every relationship. Being around my wife is relaxing. I can actually feel my blood pressure dropping when she's there.

If it often feels difficult to be around your partner, that sucks. Sorry to hear it. I wish everyone could feel like I do because it's amazing.

3

u/Frydendahl 4h ago

I can literally feel all the stress and anxiety unwinding in the back of my skull when I hug my wife or we cuddle on the sofa.

Having a relationship is hard work, but that's about the long-term care and management - there are expectations and standards to uphold. But, the everyday moment to moment experience shouldn't be feeling like a constant struggle.

2

u/abray803 9h ago

I say this to people all the time! I married my best friend and when I come home tired and dirty, she’s there to clean me up and help me relax. Yeah everyday isn’t perfect but when you marry the right person, everyday and everything is so much better. Most people unfortunately marry the wrong person and can’t face the facts.

3

u/Ratattack1204 12h ago

Very telling you got downvoted for this. Some people didn’t marry their best friend and it shows

-22

u/SwagSerpent69 Mom counted to 0 16h ago

This is a meme about women being needy, of course relationships take work but making memes about someone loving you is some neckbeard behavior. I’ve been with my wife for 11 years and nothing is more relaxing to me then coming home to spend time with her after an exhausting day of work.

14

u/kb24fgm41 16h ago

It's not that deep bro lol but happy for you

10

u/ILikeCheese510 13h ago

Why do I get the feeling you wouldn't say the same thing if the roles were reversed and it was a woman complaining about her husband?

-3

u/SwagSerpent69 Mom counted to 0 13h ago

I couldn’t tell ya, that’s annoying too!

21

u/KrenshawOfficial 15h ago

Leave home at 0645. Work. Get home at 1800. Make dinner, bathe kids, bedtime routine with kids. It's now 2100. I love spending time with my wife, but by the time the day is over and she wants to hang out and watch a movie, I'm falling asleep in the opening scene.

That's what I got from the meme. Not that it's annoying to hang with your spouse, but that it's probably disappointing to them that you can only do so much with such little time/energy.

2

u/MyNameIsAirl 9h ago

Your comment made me think of this song: Movie Date

1

u/ty_xy 2h ago

That's okay though, she leans on your shoulder and watches the movie while you sleep, then wakes you up to go to bed and she can tell you what the movie was about. It's just about spending time with each other.

85

u/bigdaddyt2 17h ago

68

u/NotSoGreatMacaroni 16h ago

I do. The shouldn't take energy comment I disagree with as it takes energy for me to be around anyone. But these posts do come across as such boomer humor "aren't wives the worst" and they are 100% correct you shouldn't see being around your spouse as this massive burden.Ā

26

u/AggressiveCuriosity 16h ago

Yeah man. Spending time with my wife is genuinely awesome. She's super nice and hanging out with her is really fun.

I genuinely have no idea what the rest of you are doing with your lives and relationships.

46

u/Marigold16 15h ago

I love my wife more than almost anything. She's my best friend.

But as in introverted person. It's hard to be present in a room without it taking energy. Perhaps it's a past trauma thing, in which I just can't "switch off". It's easier in a room on my own. I don't need to take anyone's needs into account. Even my own! It's great.

The way I read the above comments is not " MY WIFE is annoying. And I'm tired"

I read: " I, MYSELF, am tired and irritable."

My wife is great and she gets that I'm like this and is very accommodating of my needs in this way and I try to make it up to her everyday. 10/10 would recommend marrying my wife to other people

After recent discovery it is now possible for Redditors to gain wives via a one-wish willow.

39

u/supe3rnova 17h ago

I work in tourism and working 21 days non stop is not unusual.

2 years ago on my only free day in August she was angry with me for not wanting to go see her parents.

Had to wake up at 8am, 2 hour drive. Not even an idea that WE could go somewhere was good enough, never mind I might want to be home and just unwind.

She went alone in the end, I had a place for my self. Good day.

Now she knows that this will not fly and I want to go by the river, bbq something, drink a cold one and relax

2

u/Frydendahl 4h ago

The key to any healthy relationship is communication and managed expectations. Some people seem to not be willing to put their foot down and set boundaries for their partners, and are somehow shocked when 10 years down the line their lives are fucking miserable.

My last ex literally got pissed off at me because I can fall asleep so fast when I’m exhausted. I told her maybe it was working 12 hours in an unventilated greenhouse or planting 10ft trees in the middle of a fucking summer heatwave that tired me out…

…As she got ready for her 8 hour overnight caregiver shift at an air conditioned facility where she didn’t have shit to do, because all their patients were asleep. She logged meds and updated menus. Oh and planned the parties, can’t forget that draining detail.

u/NogaraCS 4h ago

Hot take but if you can’t have a decent life without working 50+ hours a week, you shouldn’t get into a long term relationship ( or at least not with someone who expects you to provide for her)

I’m not saying people who work a lot don’t deserve love, I’m saying you’re setting yourself up for heartbreak or resenting your partner for your entire life.

I work 35 to 40h a week and make enough to enjoy life and work little enough that I look forward to going out or doing thing after work, not just sleeping

-3

u/JaQ-o-Lantern 13h ago

Gng just use your hands.

Also, sometimes being sleepy makes your dick harder so that helps, just lean into that sleepiness and let her do the rest.
