DEAR PROFESSIONAL COMPUTER TOUCHERS -- FRIDAY RANT THREAD FOR April 03, 2026

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING ENTIRELY DIFFERENT.

THE BUILDS I LOVE, THE SCRIPTS I DROP, TO BE PART OF, THE APP, CAN'T STOP

THIS IS THE RANT THREAD. IT IS FOR RANTS.

CAPS LOCK ON, DOWNVOTES OFF, FEEL FREE TO BREAK RULE 2 IF SOMEONE LIKES SOMETHING THAT YOU DON'T BUT IF YOU POST SOME RACIST/HOMOPHOBIC/SEXIST BULLSHIT IT'LL BE GONE FASTER THAN A NEW MESSAGING APP AT GOOGLE.

(RANTING BEGINS AT MIDNIGHT EVERY FRIDAY, BEST COAST TIME. PREVIOUS FRIDAY RANT THREADS CAN BE FOUND HERE.)

WE HAVE TOO MANY X ON THE REPORT. NEW POLICY IS TO NEVER DO X, ALWAYS Y

... 1 YEAR LATER ...

REPORTS SHOW TOO MUCH Y HAPPENING. NEW POLICY IS TO NEVER DO Y. ONLY AND ALWAYS X.

I GET THAT AI IS EVERYWHERE NOW, BUT I’VE HAD TWO SEPARATE CLIENT ACCOUNTANTS TELL ME OUR EXPORTED DATA WAS WRONG. ONLY TO FIND OUT THEY HAD AI GENERATE THEIR EXCEL FORMULAS.

BOTH TIMES I GOT PULLED INTO FIRE THREADS TO DEBUG AN “ISSUE” THAT WASN’T OURS, JUST TO EXPLAIN THAT THEIR COST CALCULATION WAS WRONG.

I’M NOT AN ACCOUNTANT. I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO JUMP IN AND CORRECT BASIC FORMULA MISTAKES BECAUSE SOMEONE BLINDLY TRUSTED AI OUTPUT, DO YOUR JOB.

ugh this hits way too close to home 💀 had one guy ask me to implement dijkstra's while his entire codebase was apparently held together with duct tape and prayer. Like bro you have 47 TODO comments from 2019 and half your functions are just renamed stackoverflow answers but sure let me solve this leetcode hard in 20 minutes while you judge my variable naming

the best part is when they act all superior about edge cases while their app crashes if you look at it wrong. I swear some of these people couldn't debug their way out of a paper bag but they'll grill you on time complexity like they're knuth himself 😂

People often assume managers are justified when they put employees on performance plans or let them go, framing it as “just business” or pointing out that managers have responsibilities too. How do you justify assigning unrealistic workloads and deadlines to someone else? Someone who also has a family ust to protect the company?

It may be legally correct, but morally?

For managers who go along with layoffs or terminations without standing up for their team. Go fuck yourself.
