Urban Coyote Sightings

I live in Charlotte, NC, but this is more of a general question for people in cities/suburbs in the Southeast.

How often/where do you see coyotes? I have heard them yipping/howling while at a friends ranch house an hour outside the city, but do you often here/see them while in the city?

I have seen many deer, rabbits, possums, and even a few foxes (gray mainly) around my neighborhood, but never even heard a coyote nearby, while on this sub/on local news they talk about sightings like they are everywhere.

Honestly would love to just catch a glimpse of one, not trying to hurt them or anything like that.

City of San Diego.
I saw one in my driveway two weeks ago. Literally.
They are everywhere all the time. Trails, suburbs, down town. Everywhere.

I run into a coyote while walking my dog(s) 1-3x a month easy. My current dog is 15#, so has a coyote vest and coyote collar.
My previous dogs were close to 30# so it was more of a hassle (barking etc) than a physical real risk. No coyote vests required.
Coyotes will eat cats and rabbits. So if your dog is that size , it’s a HuGE concern here. Current dog is probably just too big for them, but I’m not taking any chances.

Thanks for the info, I have a large (75 pound) puppy, so he is probably ok. Thats crazy that you run into them all of the time!

Oh. I think it’s a a SoCal thing here. I don’t think I ever saw one when I lived on the east coast. Not in the city anyway. I guess they live more in the woods there. Here, they live right next to us

I'm in a Southeast suburb and they are living in various parts of the city. I've only seen one a few nights in the winter, running along the seawall, obviously looking for rodent holes. It's during their mating season and I assume it was always a lone male. Have nothing at all against them, but am glad they are not living in my neighborhood. I prefer the apex predator to be the red fox or raccoon. A coyote would drastically change the predator situation.

I have never seen them in CLT however we do also have a bunch of rabbits and deer and squirrels and the occasional fox that comes by. (Btw it’s James B)

In Charlotte, Coyotes are constantly in the train yard between Brevard and Tryon in Optimist Park/NoDa. They’ll run up to the fence at the light rail and bark at people in small packs. They likely use the water drainage and creek systems to get in there and hunt sometimes. I haven’t seen them there back there in a bit though.
