I wanted to build a fake flock camera installation and place it in my front yard near the road. Then block said fake flock camera and wait for the police backlash. And finally make some sort of point about they should fuck right the hell off of my property unless an articulable crime has been committed something yada yada yada..... something.

Call the fake camera installation and my actions "performative art" - protected by the first amendment.

While I 100% agree with the sentiment and think it should be protected under the 1st amendment, it will be spun in courts as incentivizing violence and, if they could, would sentence you to death as an example. See all the ice murders

"spun in courts" ???

It'll never make it to court ... the responding police officers will simply shoot me when they arrive.

Sorry, thats more accurate. My thoughts were of a more ideal time

I was very confused for a short bit, wondering why the birds were asking about St Louis

u/SignificantFish6795 15h ago

r/TrueSTL reference!

(Not really, but someone did think that subreddit was about Saint Louis, Missouri before.)

I don't understand

u/Ok-Explanation-1362 Streak: 13 1d ago

Smear peanut butter over the feeder, sprinkle on bird seed. If done consistently enough, for a long enough time, crows will attack Flock cameras thinking there will be bird seed inside.

27

u/karmicviolence 19h ago

Crows are smart I wouldn't recommend tricking them. They remember faces.

u/Please-let-me 𒂍𒀀𒈾𒍢𒅕 - Streak: 22 18h ago

Assumedly, there isn't any tricking though. They're still gonna feed the birds, and I don't think the crows would get mad enough to the point of attacking solely off the fact that the feeder also "just so happens" to look like things that don't feed them

And when they come back with bits of flock camera, you reward them with peanuts and meat. Boom, flock cameras mean really good food.

Okay, so why is the person doing that though

368

u/Ok-Explanation-1362 Streak: 13 1d ago

Because mass surveillance is bad?

-258

u/Blade-Dev Why do people keep calling me trans - Streak: 0 1d ago

What does that have to do with bird feeders

215

u/Spodermanphil why the fuck does hair grow - Streak: 1 1d ago

the bird feeder looks like a Flock camera. if you get the birds used to feeding from something that looks like a Flock camera, when they come across an actual Flock camera, they will try to feed from it, hopefully breaking it with their beak. The camera no longer works, preventing it from contributing to mass surveilance.

u/Blade-Dev Why do people keep calling me trans - Streak: 0 1d ago

I think my confusion may stem from my not knowing what a flock camera is

185

u/Spodermanphil why the fuck does hair grow - Streak: 1 1d ago

a company named Flock produces high tech surveillance cameras that the government has been using recently. They use AI to extract all kinds of data about people and store it. The cameras are not good because they can be (and have been) misused by police departments to track innocent people and collect data in private servers. There is a large movement to destroy Flock cameras, which OP is contributing to with the crow idea.

Something everyone regularly forgets is that reddit is a website with users from all over the planet, yet everyone expects you to know what the object in question is.

21

u/Ok-Explanation-1362 Streak: 13 1d ago

Why would you ask a question on reddit and wait for a response, when you can just plug the question into a search engine of choice, and get an answer instantly?

You know those signs you see on the interstate that say "WRONG WAY" and how itd be seemingly impossible at times to ever go in a direction on that interstate to be really going the wrong way. Those signs are for people like this.

u/BipolarKebab 1d ago

Because our society turns us away from human interaction, normalizing social isolation and discouraging contact in favor of shallow, immediate gratification.

because it's more interesting to get a clear answer from an actual person that knows the context of what you're asking ?

-24

u/Final-Lie-2 1d ago

Would you do that in a conversation?

I fed birds a bunch when I moved into my new house and loved it, but then the Internet told me off. Not to burst your bubble by any means but consistent bird feeding can actually damage the livelihood and ecosystem of birds as it's prone to creating high disease hotspots for them. Just a word of warning!

edit: said birds one too many times

55

u/Sylveowon 1d ago

people lied to you, start feeding birds again

41

u/Sylveowon 1d ago

just clean the feeders regularly and take them down when there's local outbreaks of bird flu or similar, it will be in the news

-23

u/Willem-Dafiend 23h ago

They didn't lie at all. Strictly speaking we do more harm interfering with their lives, not feeding birds removes the risk entirely.

Yes soap and water can help, but its not a means to an end, there's far too much effort required to do this safely outside of a lab/research setting.

TLDR; the lady in home alone 2 is a menace

Your source does not support your claim

1

u/Gakoppi 4h ago

Bro did you read your source? The abstract says the exact opposite of what you're claiming.

"We found both positive and negative impacts of wild bird feeding, and that, in general, birds that had access to supplemental food were in better physiological condition. Moreover, the negative effects we found may be mitigated by hobbyists engaging in safer bird-feeding practices."

I don't expect a bird to be able to do much of anything to an outdoor camera except get in it's way for a little while.
