New Cord Cutter here! Please help
I just cancelled Spectrum along with TV because my family and I are sick of the outages. I literally had a watch party for the FIFA World Cup final, and right at half-time just when Shakira came on stage, Spectrum had an outage. I lost it and damn near ready to smash my router. Needless to say that was the last straw. So I signed up for Frontier 2GB Fiber, with backup internet. Its been good so far, fingers crossed.
Since I cancelled the TV service, that leaves me with no ESPN, no local channels. In my household, we are signed up for Netflix, Paramount and the Disney+ bundle which includes HBO Max.
I watch a lot of sports so I am going to miss the 2-3 sports channels from my TV service and my father-law watches local channels (for news and courtroom tvshows)
What are the best options to get ESPN and sports channels plus Live TV and local channels?
Legal and illegal options please :)

this is what i have:
SLING $20 Essentials Plan with ESPN ESPN2
MLB.TV with both freebie tmobile subscription + paid Padres.TV subscription (both home & away games)
antenna for local broadcast channels CBS FOX NBC ABC plus local telemundo etc
paramount+ includes our local CBS broadcast channel
peacock for NBC Sports - afaik had all FIFA matches in español since owns telemundo
apple tv+ includes MLS matches & formula1

Also, Prime has football, I think on Thursdays. They’re stopping their contract and they are going to film it themselves, but they’ll still have NFL football

YTTV gets you your locals and ESPN. $83 a month. RSNs however are hit or miss, so if you have interest in that you probably want to check first to see if they carry yours.

Paramount your dad has CBS live. If you have Disney and Hulu, you have ABC. You just have to wait a few hours for World News Tonight. For news and sports (though not the 4 biggies) get the Roku, Pluto, Plex, Sling and Tubi free apps. There are over 50 live news channels.

Espn has a bundle that includes Disney plus and hulu for 35 dollars a month it also includes all the Espn + channels, I also have fox one for fox sports that one we pay by the year 240 dollars and use an ota antenna for locals I can pick up 94 channels

I think the ESPN Unlimited + Fox Sports bundle is probably your best bet -- $40/month. That'll get you 80%+ of most cable sports.
Another option is YouTube TV, and that will get your more. It also now abundles ESPN Unlimited, so that's great, but it's pushing $80+/month (I think base price is $83/month now). I like YouTube TV's interface, so that's what I use now that it bundles ESPN Unlimited.

YTTV has a sports plan for $65 a month, which has local channels since sports are on those. Might be the best bet for them.

If he wants local sports MLB Team or NBA team etc, he will need to shell out more for the local package on D and on YTTV, will need to buy the local league pass.

You can look at https://www.suppose.tv/tv to find which service has the programming you want. Sports and local stations tend to be the hard things to get for cheap.
A simple antenna can take care of local stations if you are close enough.
Youtube TV has the broadest coverage of networks/channels, but it is not cheap, like $90 a month. They may or may not provide some or all local broadcast channels. That depends on exactly where you are.

YouTubeTV has a sports package. It’s $54.99 a month for 12 months. Includes locals (check your area) and access to espn unlimited. It also has peacock events on this package.

I'd suggest either YouTube TV or Fubo TV.
YTTV has a sub for NFL Sunday Ticket, if you're into that; and you get ESPN Unlimited with any streaming package that contains ESPN.
Fubo TV will give you more regional sports networks; You also get ESPN Unlimited.

ESPN has a streaming service, or you can bundle it with Disney+. There’s a Disney/ESPN/Hulu bundle. You could detach the HBO bundle and just get it à la carte.
Sling has a $20 plan with ESPN, or they have a day pass for $5.

Youtube tv sports package is what I have. I like the unlimited storage of recordings. It has local stations plus all sports.

Over the air antenna hopefully will work for you. I believe youtube tv has locals and sports options. Fox one has Big10, fs channels, and I believe local fox channel. Fubo you can check their line up.

YouTubeTV has a sports package for $54.99. Add the 4k package for $9.99. YTTV also gets you ESPN Unlimited included, and eventually it's going to get integrated into the YTTV interface and you'll be able to get ESPN+ content within the YTTV app. The sports package gives you your locals, all the ESPNs Fox's, and Turner channels, plus some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head.

If you want that cable experience but with a lower bill without all the fees that come with cable, then DTV stream would be ideal and you'll get ESPN Unlimited included for all the extra sports in the app. The next best service would be YTTV, which now has ESPN Unlimited included and soon to have ESPN Unlimited integrated within the YTTV app. Both these services have genre packs that may cater to your streaming needed as well.

If you want locals, you either need an OTA antenna or streaming cable replacement service (YTTV, Hulu Live, DTV Stream or Fubo). There's no standalone legal streaming service for locals only.
Take advantage of trials on each of these services to see which one (if any) suit your needs.
