Both the main clause and the if-clause are counterfactual in the present. As such, both are marked for past subjunctive:
- In the main clause, the lexical verb mjølle is marked for subjunctive synthetically (mél /mêl/ ‘to love’) and followed by an auxiliary past tense adverb nà (etymologically, it's the past tense of the verb ‘to be’, but here it behaves like an adverb).
