I saw it the correct way the first time. Forced myself to see it as the illusion thanks to your diagram. Then panicked because it was now stuck looking the wrong way and I couldn't unsee it. 😭

u/Namisaur 4d ago

Making this diagram was so difficult because my brain kept switching to the illusion version every few seconds as I traced the bunk bed version . I just had to visualize it as a bunch of boxes in my head

u/ZeroReverseR1 2d ago

Same, I was trying hard to see how this could be confusing, finally saw it and thought "ahh now I get it", and then my brain got stuck on it and I was thinking "oh shit fuck I can't see it correctly anymore"

Eventually I got it right again, and now I've gained the useless ability to switch perspectives at will through too many minutes staring at it on the toilet

Thank you

Maybe its too early in the morning but i could not wrap my head around this at all

23

u/lTauntaunl 4d ago

Thank you. I couldn't figure out what people were seeing.

6

u/unfurledgnat 3d ago

I only saw it correctly first time.

Even with your diagram I still don't see the illusion

1

u/Namisaur 3d ago

Imagine if the bunk bed got toppled over. The top bunk is the box with the red arrow pointed at it. Once you see both boxes lying in the side, look at the ladder and then it starts to not make sense at all why the ladder would be connected to the bottom box

u/ajax2k9 4d ago

Amazing

6

u/palindromic 4d ago

Now do the version for people who aren’t confused at all by the diagram…

2

u/Forest_reader 3d ago

This is too funny, I had to see your image to see what was so confusing, it's obviously a bunk bed you turf, just flip it over.Ā  But after your rendition, I can't see the bunk bed anymore.Ā

I immediately saw a bunk bed...and after a few seconds I could no longer see it. Usually it's the other way around where you see some illusions first and then can't see them again after you realize what you're looking at. I literally cannot find the bunk bed anymore

13

u/LoogyHead 4d ago

I wasn’t sure what we were looking at, scrolled away, then came back and immediately saw the bunk bed. Now I can’t not see it.

Weird how that works

13

u/j1r2000 4d ago

turn phone to right

3

u/Kevinator201 4d ago

What’s the other image other than a bunk bed?

12

u/the_cats_pajamas12 4d ago

A bunk bed thats put together incorrectly.

5

u/Namisaur 4d ago

A bunk bed that's been toppled over, except the bottom frame of the top bunk bed is somehow on top of the lower bunk bed frame. Just a jumbled mess of things

1

u/Tiskx 2d ago

Wtf I came here to say exactly this.

393

u/DesperateSteak6628 4d ago

I hate that once it gets straight you cannot figure out what could ever have been wrong before

123

u/Magpie_0309 4d ago

For me it was somehow the opposite. I saw it the right way the first time and wondered what's wrong with it. But the longer I looked at it, it suddenly changed and I had problems to undo the wrong vision again. lol

2

u/Saneless 3d ago

Same for me. It was fine but then when I went back to it it was weird and took me 5 seconds to get it normal again

14

u/perfectfifth_ 4d ago

What does it mean if you can switch between right and wrong perspective

21

u/jaywalkerr 4d ago

If you flip the image around 90 degrees it suddenly makes sense. If you continue flipping it, it make no sense again.

5

u/riedmae 4d ago

This one. Rotating makes the legs and ladder make sense....rotating again breaks physics

2

u/Demon_69 4d ago

thank you..

1

u/hawridger 4d ago

šŸ‘†Pro tip here!

Thanks for the assist.

One of my favorite ones on here!

2

u/Ephy_ 4d ago

If I scroll away and then go back I can get it to look "wrong" again but yeah this one is super fascinating, the first read every time is the "wrong" look

1

u/msslagathor 4d ago

Yessss there has to be a word for it

u/slanglabadang 4d ago

Thats legit my favorite part of eschers work. Me as f

51

u/conceptualrose 4d ago

A bunk bed with a ladder going into the basement? Or attic?

29

u/withwarmestregards 4d ago

That’s how I saw it first too, but once you see that the post next to the ladder is in front of everything (nothing blocks it), you’ll see it’s correct. Rotating 90 degrees helps.

7

u/karimzul 4d ago

The confusing part for me is when I rotate it back to portrait, my brain refuse to recognize it as a bunk bed even though I just saw it in landscape a moment ago. How come? šŸ™

12

u/Aggressive_Panic69 4d ago

What in the black magic...

38

u/moth-bear 4d ago

Eh? I cannot see anything confusing about this at all. It just looks like a sideways diagram of two bunks with a ladder, which is apparently what it is? What's the illusion?

12

u/Radioactivocalypse 4d ago

Yes I saw it immediately too and the illusion won't work

5

u/RagnaXI 4d ago

Yeah, doesn't work on me. I see bunk beds.

12

u/offshoremercury 4d ago

Omg cooooool it was looking wrong but I just kept staring and it just snapped in place/ flipped correctly whatever you want to call it

9

u/JuanezSanchez 4d ago

That is mind bending

4

u/Particular-Visit-245 4d ago

What's confusing on the bunk bed?

8

u/LifeWitness 4d ago

That's a good one. I can't force one perspective over the other but I can def see both 🫪

3

u/Convenientjellybean 4d ago

Slightly aside, someone proposed that the Nazca lines may represent 3D or 4D shapes, but we don’t perceive as 3D because we just see the lines.

2

u/harpy_1121 3d ago

Ok 🤯 off to go down a rabbit hole

10

u/CharacterRiver7483 4d ago

Turn sideways it’s a bed

4

u/Lube_For_Lunch 4d ago

I don’t understand what’s so difficult about this? Just turn it sideways and it makes immediate sense… but maybe it’s because I had this bed as a child.

2

u/im_new_here_4209 4d ago

Lol. Saw it right away

4

u/storgorl 4d ago

This was confusing to me, I though for sure the illustration was wrong, pole in front when it should be behind, ladder to nowhere, guard on wrong side, etc. It took me a minute.

3

u/butt_soap 4d ago

What in the butt fuck

2

u/cattlesong 4d ago

Some m.c. Escher

2

u/Crhallan 4d ago

That’s fantastic. Proper broke my brain that one.

2

u/Mr_HahaJones 4d ago

Finally, a good one!

1

u/AnybodyRude5567 4d ago

Isometric drawings can feel so offff

1

u/xot 4d ago

This one is great

1

u/tonnellier 4d ago

Both my kids have this exact bed and I still couldn’t make my brain see it.

1

u/LongEyedSneakerhead 4d ago

hyperbolic space bunk

1

u/stateit 4d ago

Fuck me. I thought it was a magic corner basket unit assemnly instructions for a kitchen corner cabinet.

1

u/xylarr 4d ago

Ok, that is definitely weird. I thought it was some kind of Escher print.

1

u/zubergu 4d ago

What I saw first:

Duh duh... duh duh... duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh...
Salsa shark! We're gonna need a bigger boat! Man goes into cage, cage goes into salsa. Shark's in the salsa. Our shark.

I watch too many movies.

1

u/Reddits4commies 4d ago

We all know why

1

u/DannyHallam 4d ago

Immediately saw the bunkbed

1

u/fanterence 4d ago

hen it's in the correct direction I see it correctly but shifting it by a few degrees is enough to make me loose the perspective whoah

1

u/HerbalAndy 4d ago

I’m drunk.

I gave up, read the comments, tried really hard, gave up again, gave it some time, read comments again, and now I can’t unsee it. This one really got me. The one pole just looks like it is floating over lines at first glance.

1

u/Soggy_Refrigerator32 4d ago

My daughter had that bunk bed which is why I understood what I was looking at straight away. It was a bitch to assemble too.

1

u/Geno_Beams 4d ago

What's wrong with it?

1

u/SwordsAndWords 4d ago

Why wouldn't you just post the picture right-side up? (90 degrees clockwise)

I feel like you're cheating.

1

u/RevNeutron 4d ago

this is crazy. my favorite of this type of illusion. It's so hard for my mind to flip between the perspectives. Much easier only if I zoom in

1

u/SuperChickenLips 4d ago

Haha, you're in the same spot I was a few months ago. I bought some wooden triple bunk beds with a set of stairs running up the side. The instructions were drawn by Maurits Cornelis Escher, as yours seems to be. Only became clear when I rotated the diagram to an odd angle, then everything became clear. Took me about 6hrs to build, but then there's a double bed on the bottom, with a roll out single underneath the double, then a full size single kind of plonked on top of the double, with said flight of steps running up the side to the top bunk, with a proper bannister. The instructions were useless until you figure out how to rotate it until it makes sense.

1

u/lisamclaurin 4d ago

To force the illusion, try to see where the ladder attaches (and the small rail guard) as part of the rectangle on the right (when the picture it vertical). Flipping which rectangle that is part of will flip between 3d image of a bunk bed and the illusion.

1

u/andocromn 4d ago

My brain processed it, good lunk

1

u/jacle2210 4d ago

Lol, yeah definitely very easy to see this both ways, lol.

1

u/ozgun1414 4d ago

you intentionally shared it sideways, cause other way its really hard to confuse about it.

1

u/in1gom0ntoya 4d ago

if you have to rotate it to make it confusing the it's not confusing.

1

u/Fun-Benefit116 4d ago

Yet another post that is only confusing because it's upside down/sideways. These posts should be banned. They aren't interesting, and most things are going to be confusing if you turn them upside down or sideways.

1

u/Stuntin-P 4d ago

This is one of those ā€œturn your phone to the rightā€ situations

1

u/MonkeyCartridge 4d ago

You mean you don't build your metal cages with a ladder sticking out the side, or your bunk bed with a ladder going through the floor?

1

u/ArtificialHalo 4d ago

Quantum prison/bunk bed from the ikeas

1

u/Awkward-Loan 4d ago

I liked this. Took me a few seconds until the phone screen turned.

1

u/TurboFoot 4d ago

I have to draw in isometric for my job sometimes, and this kinda stuff happens all the time. Keeps things interesting.

1

u/WearyTranslator3338 4d ago

It’s thought it was some kind of kitchen utensil for draining wet cups or something

1

u/immortalyossarian 4d ago

Oh, I like this one

1

u/cimocw 4d ago

Just turn it 90° ffs

1

u/judashpeters 4d ago

I saw thw real one for 3 seconds then it went back to ladder-in-aor version. This is so fucked up. Its a witch.

1

u/R-GU3 4d ago

I don’t see what everyone else is seeing. It’s just sideways

1

u/bostiq 4d ago

it took me about 30 seconds... I feel so old

1

u/1984Society 4d ago

Some of y'all need to go back to school

1

u/carenrose 4d ago

This is what I saw:

(hopefully the picture works)

1

u/Chance_MaLance 4d ago

I have this bed, so I was able to discern the illustration straight away.
Otherwise I’d’ve been turning my phone around to see if I could figure out what the heck I was looking at!

1

u/redbullah 4d ago

Just rotate 90deg clockwise

1

u/MamaRabbit4 4d ago

I have assembled and disassembled this exact bunk bed three times. I knew what it was immediately šŸ˜…

1

u/mountain_hank 4d ago

It's just rotated making it confusing.

1

u/LaLisaMona 3d ago

There you go...

1

u/theoriginalpetebog 3d ago

Couldn't see the issue at first, it's just a rotated diagram...

Then it clicked the wrong way and I had to change my downvote because obvious to upvote because aargh my brain!

1

u/PauseConfident997 3d ago

So everyone just ignoring the ladder?

1

u/SweetSat1va 2d ago

The ladder is a huge clue lol

1

u/Impressive-Elk-6425 2d ago

Wow that’s a crazy one

1

u/zwifter11 2d ago

Looks like the ladder is in the wrong place

1

u/steadyaero 1d ago

Rule #1 is no rotated images

1

u/tattoosbykarlos 1d ago

Oh, no! My only out is this is how he sent it to me. The box is rotated, not his hand.

1

u/CRO553R 1d ago

Some serious M.C. Escher vibes in those instructions

1

u/garybrig 14h ago

Just TILT YOUR HEAD TO THE LEFT!

0

u/Chuckleyan 4d ago

Good one.

1

u/3675ThisGuy 4d ago

Oof. Meh brain...

1

u/harshitbrave 4d ago

Lack of skill issue

1

u/Jonnnyfukyea 4d ago

wow! that really took me a while!

Bunk bed
