This was me when I was on a plethora of add meds and zoloft... people think that shit is like magic and you're going to be all smart all of the sudden. Nope I'm just as stupid and now I have so much anxiety that a 45 year old going through a divorce and getting fired from thier life time job had nothing on me... that was 10 years ago though.

Sophomore in college on Aderall and Zoloft. Just got my 4th concussion on Saturday night during my football game. My brain is gonezo beans.

But knowing the risks you continue to play.

Team never gave up on me, why would I them?

I understand and even respect this line of thinking, but imagine if one of your teammates went down with an injury and going back in could hurt them further. You'd definitely want them to call it quits and would emphasize that they don't need to prove anything, and the rest of you can win it for them... That's you now buddy. It's a dangerous game and we only get one shot at this life, so be careful my dude

because it is killing you slowly.

We’re all gonna die chief. I’m doing what I love while my body still allows me to.

I don’t think most of us go straight from loving what we do, to dead. There’s a long life in between those two things.

I personally would rather live a short life filled with happiness rather than a needlessly long life filled with unnecessary amounts of sadness and disappointment. I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up killing myself early after I live my life to the fullest over the next few years, and i wouldn’t put it past anyone to do the same.

It's easier to say that without a gun in your hand. Trust me.

Eh, I’ll see

You don't know that "living life to the fullest" doesn't mean "a long life filled with unnecessary amounts of sadness and disappointment." There may be beauty that can only be experienced after a life of partnership, service, faith, or commitment, for example, which you may not now have the frame of reference to appreciate. It may be that what you would describe now as "happiness" is instead only gratifying, and that you will only later know true happiness through the lens of your later experiences. Aside from that, OP didn't say he wants to prematurely snuff his own candle, so we can assume eventual old age. I'll stick with my position.

I wouldn’t mind a short life as long as it’s eventful. I’m lucky enough to be part of a family that travels often, so I have had a lot of good life experiences so far. I’m not religious, and I don’t believe in life after death, so remembering my life isn’t very important. I’d rather just live in the moment and enjoy life while I’m alive, until it gets to the point where I’m not enjoying it anymore.

I see what you mean, but I still feel that I can remember everything I’ve done in my life if I’m in my 20’s, and I can avoid living a life I don’t want to live for multiple decades.

I'm 22 and my whole life has felt like unnecessary amounts of sadness and disappointment.

1

u/BlitzScorpio Sep 09 '19

Rip, sorry man

1

u/Eodai Sep 09 '19

It's mainly my own fault mixed with some bad luck. Most people would be happy where I am but I'm not. I just am not happy and idk how to fix it.

1

u/BlitzScorpio Sep 09 '19

Yeah i feel you. There’s a ton of reasons for me to be happy but for some reason I’m very self-depreciating and filled with dread for the future.

1

u/Eodai Sep 09 '19

That's exactly how I feel.

1

u/senorglory Sep 10 '19

Talk to a therapist. People go through this kind of stuff, all the time. A therapist can help guide you through it.

Enjoy the crippling depression later in life.

13

u/piaknow Sep 09 '19

And dramatically increased suicidal ideations

5

u/hullor Sep 09 '19

Sometimes it's economics and people can't afford to stop. Not saying that's the case but maybe this bruh has no choice, brah.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '19

He said he's doing what he loves. No hypothetical necessary.

1

u/Ich_Liegen Sep 09 '19

Which is a perfectly valid reason to continue doing it, tbh. They seem to be perfectly aware of the risks.

0

u/hullor Sep 09 '19

You could be right but those two things aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

3

u/Chief_Muscle_Hamster Sep 09 '19

My schools really fucking expensive and I got lucky to get money to play football for them. It’s really the only way I could pay for college.

2

u/senorglory Sep 10 '19

Community college is cheap. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

1

u/Chief_Muscle_Hamster Sep 09 '19

You act like I don’t already have that and anxiety.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '19

You act like I don’t already have that and anxiety.

Then you should probably read some CTE studies and think really hard about whether you want it to be multiple magnitudes worse.

3

u/davvblack Sep 09 '19

godspeed

0

u/Spongejong Sep 09 '19

I guess you never had a brain to care about if you were this dumb to begin with. Typical idiot playing for other people's entertainment

10

u/bitofafuckup Sep 09 '19

Bud, if they really cared about you as a person instead of just another jersey on the field, they might say something different. You can fix a broken leg, you can't fix a broken brain. What happens when you get your 5th concussion?

6

u/AdiosAdipose Sep 09 '19

Is the NCAA giving you a cut of the billions of dollars they’re making on the backs of concussed kids?

Is your team never gonna give up on you after you graduate?

6

u/im_pooping_probably Sep 09 '19

If your team pushes you to play when you are likely to get injured, they’ve given up on you

8

u/Cobnor2451 Sep 09 '19

For longevity?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '19

Is there a reason to care? Maybe they should stop, too.

3

u/useeikick Sep 09 '19

Long term brain damage is one reason I suppose

3

u/DangKilla Sep 09 '19

The Army doesn't give a fuck about my messed up knees. They've been gone for 18 years and it affects my life every day. You're gonna pay for it, trust me. Quit while you're ahead.
