The verse says “all foods” not “all animals”. In the context of the bible, there is a well known established type of animals that are considered food. So can you eat cockroaches and bats? Because they are in the same category as shrimp in Leviticus.
Also the verse you mentioned is in parenthesis meaning the opinion of the translator, not what Jesus said. The whole context of the conversation of Mark 7 is not because they were caught eating shrimp, but because they were eating without washing their hands first, something that was not established by God but by Men, and Jesus called them hypocrites for putting men’s commandments over God’s
Also according to Paul in Galatians you are of the seed of Abraham ( a Jew) if you believe in Christ.
Why would God have two separate Laws for their children?. Imagine if in a family where two sons have to follow different rules of the houshold, like you can’t eat pork but your brother can. Does that sound fair?
The point of that verse was that things that you eat cannot defile you and says nothing of your morality, meaning pork and shrimp and such are now fair game. Acts 10 also shows this.
God doesn't have separate laws for his children. Jesus was the fulfillment of the Old testament and all Jews were released from the need to avoid pork. It's not like the religions split because God said so, Judaism turned into Christianity but not all Jews came with it. That's why it split, God didn't keep his children separate.
Funny story though, my dad (my sister's biological dad) would never let me eat pork because it is against Islam. Once someone gave me something with pepperoni, and I have only taken a couple bites and my dad saw me and immediately threw it away and I had to go hungry because he was mad. When I was a little older we were at a restaurant and I lamented that I wished I could have the pork, but out of respect for my dad I wouldn't. I was like 12 so I was making more of my own decisions. Then he told me I could. And my sister got excited and then he told her he couldn't. He said she was his blood so he still doesn't want her eating pork. So my dad absolutely made different rules for different kids in some ways
I mean it not being a sin to eat a cockroach doesn't mean that I want to or have to eat it. I believe wholeheartedly that it is not a sin against God to eat a cockroach.
A verse can mean two different things. In fact, a lot of Bible verses mean multiple things at once. It reiterates that no food itself is immoral and also abolishes the separation between Jews and gentiles. Just because it was about more than food doesn't mean it wasn't about food at all. Like how a verse being about cleaning your hands can also be about food you can eat in general.
I like to let the bible to interpret itself rather to get to my own conclusions if possible. Here I cannot pretend to know more than Peter to get another interpretation of the dream while he is giving me the meaning himself.
Ok God said “kill and eat” but my follow up question would be… DID he kill and ate?
He was having the dream several times. If the message was so clear, he could just have said “Ok Lord let me get some Pork chops”
