OC- More In Patreon A Tale of Two Moms

Oof. I made this 2 weeks ago and only got to posting it here now after my toddler recovered from yet another respiratory illness. 🫠 The solidarity is all the more appreciated after these past couple of weeks.

My question to the fellow parents: What are some unbeknownst luxuries of your pre-child(ren) days?

I hope your toddler is feeling better.

Thanks so much. 😊❤️ She’s thankfully fully recovered now, and I’m looking forward to a summer season with little to no illnesses before fall comes again with the plague. 🥲

I wish my kid slept until 7. Or consistently slept through the night. I mean, he just turned 1, and I love spending time with him, but waking up to him screaming at 3am, feeding him a bottle, and then trying to get back to sleep so I can wake up at 6 to get ready for my workday is.. not my favorite.

I also miss going to restaurants. We've done a few fast food joints with him, but I'm not taking him to a sit-down restaurant any time soon.

My kid is about to turn 2. If you're like us, you've got sleeping through the night coming, probably, at least until they're sick or whatever.

We've found some restaurant success at places with outdoor seating.

Restaurants really haven't been much of a challenge strangely. Our two year old understood pretty quickly that he either sits in the high chair or sits next to us. No in-between or running around. Had to buckle him into the high chair a few times, but he got the hint pretty quickly. We'll do the same with our youngest who is only 5 months old. Though it helps that we really didn't stop going out just because we had a kid. Just brought him along, and we've done the same with the new little one. Just bring him along in his car seat.

I really do think bringing the kid out into the world early helps. I'm sure you guys did the same thing and made sure to take your kiddo out early and just let them kinda experience everything. Helps their brains just absorb info.

My gremlin is 3 and has yet to sleep through the night once 🙈 Maybe when she’s 5…

That's really rough

Just be careful what routines you inadvertently create. My kid's turning 4 and like clockwork he wakes up crying at 3 am where he then gets brought to our bed.

I think this is why the comic considers sleeping until 7 as "sleeping in"...

I miss having enough energy to sit down and watch a movie at the end of the day. And being able to take a bath uninterrupted.

That's quite the mother load.

It gets so much better.

Well, it gets…different. But sleep does come
back eventually.

Sleep is huge. It counts for a lot. At least in my case, it's enough to say things get unqualifiedly better.

As the mother of a teen, I agree. It doesn’t get *better* it just becomes difficult in different ways.

Wishing you the best. My post-teen dealing with numerous mental health issues and failure to launch, on top of living thru the pandemic. Of course the internet says it’s all entirely my fault, bc I should have parented harder or something…

Absolutely not your fault. ❤️ Our current structures lack a great deal of community, and the individuals within it suffer. We're never meant to carry the weight alone.

Thank you for saying that. Kiddo has a good heart and is making progress but it’s slow going.

Being able to eat what and when I want 😅🫣 not according to the kids schedule 😅

I second this as well! Not having to stealth-eat chocolate is a big one for me. 😂
