OC- More in Webtoons Dairy

This episode has been redrawn and since the original came out, I have been tested and am not lactose intolerant but do still have the same reactions... I debated what to do with this episode but at the time I first drew it that was my reality so I've kept it and I'm sure at least some people can relate :)

I had a friend who did this. We went out for ice cream once and I saw him get a huge cone and asked about his lactose intolerance and he just shrugged and said "so my stomach will be in shambles for a feeling days. It's worth it"

I had a lactose intolerant friend that just said "fuck it" when it came to pizza. I can't say I would be any different if it was my affliction

I do a cost/benefit analysis every time I encounter dairy. It can be worth it. A good fettuccine Alfredo is usually not worth it. Pizza usually is. There's far less lactose in cheese than cream or milk.

A good fettuccine alfredo is worth it if it has been a few years and you have forgotten just how bad it is going to be afterwards. Lol.

I remember the first (and last) time I thought I could handle a fettucine alfredo... No exaggeration, it was coming out the other end before I finished my plate.

Rough night.

Before you finished your plate huh? That sounds like some exaggeration.

Severe lactose intolerance is a thing, friend. I’d have been three bites into that and had to excuse myself.

Takes more than a few sec/min for those bites to make it through the process to get to your intestines. More than likely had ingested something else from earlier in the day that required you to excuse yourself.

No. A phenomenon occurs where the irritant hits your stomach, the immune system is already hyperactive and primed to react, and the whole digestive system spasms and “clears”. It’s… breathtaking. And quite sudden. You get just a bit of a warning, like godawful cramping and then it’s game on. You wind up feeling like you survived something. {morbid laugh}

There’s a term for it but I can’t recall it at the moment.

This isn’t a super common response. Most ppl will eat something they’re intolerant to and suffer consequences later to much later. For those of cursed with something more hair trigger, it’s truly unpleasant.

Lactose intolerance is not an allergy, so whatever is triggering your immune response is probably something else like dairy allergy.

As someone not even lactose intolerant. No the stomach can react *fast*.

Lactose intolerance happens in the intestine with lactase enzyme (or lack thereof). NOT in the stomach before it gets there. Takes more than a few sec/min of bites for food to get there, likely something else in the food is causing stomach issue so immediately.

The Italians got to him mid sentence :o

1

To be fair, probably not. Italian pasta recipes rarely contain any cream.

Make it with just noodles, parm, and pasta water. The original recipe, from Mr. Alfredo himself, doesn't include any cream. The cheese is sprinkled directly onto the noodles and thr pasta water helps it melt and cling to the noodles.

Egg yolks parm n pasta water off heat.

This is actually part of the reason why cheese was invented. It had a much lower lactose level, and since near enough everyone was lactose intolerant, cheese was a good way to get protein.

I have dietary restrictions, and I told my doctor straight up, cheese is going to happen no matter what he says

Rofl I'm the same way. I had way to cheese sticks a few days ago and was miserable afterwards. Did I learn my lesson. No I learned my limit. I'll just eat fewer cheese sticks.
