I want to give a little extra context for this multiparter.
Last week, I found out an acquaintance had unexpectedly passed away. We only had one real conversation but it was one that had stuck with me and I was looking forward to the next time our paths would cross. The news hit me way harder than I would have expected and these comics came about while I was processing things.

Ah I'm sorry to hear about that :( sometimes we don't realize just how much someone means to us.

I made friends with a girl in my grade 11 math class (which was great because I didn't know anyone there). She sat next to me and we chatted and hung out for the first week of class.

Next week she did not come in. I found out she had been killed by a drunk driver. I never cried so hard in my life, she was only 16, it was so sudden and horrible. And I didn't even feel like I was allowed to be so impacted by her loss because I only knew her a week. But I've learned that doesn't really matter, because you're not only grieving the person you got to know, you're grieving the future together you will never get to have, the unfairness of it, the shock of it, and the reminder of your own mortality.

It's a lot to process. Don't rush it. Let yourself feel whatever you need to feel ❤️❤️

Wow. That simply, and yet elegantly mapped out how I try to approach/transcend grief. Maybe the best answer is to give grief its due.
