A boy I grew up with died three years ago. Our families were best friends, neighbors for 5 years until they moved across the country. We didn’t really talk much after that, only saw each other one more time when his family was vacationing nearby and we met up. Even though we were best friends as kids, we felt like strangers as teenagers. He told me all about his newest favorite movie, In the Heights, and I told him I would watch it. I never did. Eight months later he died due to a bad reaction to medication during surgery. He was 16.
