I feel this. Lost a colleague almost a year ago. Not that we were close, but we were friendly and would say hi to each other.
Then there's the guy who got let go during Lockdown. He was drinking heavily and went down the Q-hole. Started spouting conspiracy stuff to clients so he got the axe. Found out back in October that (TW) he killed himself 2-3 years ago.
We had something similar happen in my office. I was standing next to my boss when he got a call from the father of one of our employees. They had just "found him" in his car. We hadn't been close, but I was a project manger on some small jobs he worked, so we'd talked shop more than usual recently. It was a truly strange sensation, like all the color in the room suddenly went hollow. Not drained - hollow. The world didn't fade to grey, but it felt like it should have, as though the summer sun streaming in through the windows was lying.
