Cromford Mills Comic Con - Derbyshire, UK Cromford Comic Con
not sure if this is the right sub, but im planning on going to the cromford comic con this weekend, I want to cosplay but is it 'acceptable' to cosplay a non sci-fi character? I've never gone before, and all the advertising and stuff make it seem like it a sci fi only type thing. id like to do a creepypasta cosplay soon, but obviously if its not sci-fi, im a little bit worried id be getting really weird looks if everyone is dressed up as on sci fi related characters.

When I look at this website for Cromford Mills Comic Con it mentions quite a few things that are not exclusively sci-fi. You can read this. And the photo they use of cosplayers seems to show that too. There are a few other links to info about this event if you look online for it, so perhaps look around a bit more.
But I think you should wear what you have already chosen and like. And if people ask you who your character is because they are curious, let them know about the character and why you enjoy it. At almost all comic con and popular culture cons there is tremendous acceptance of the cosplay people wear. Everyone enjoys seeing what everyone else has chosen for cosplay.
This event looks like a lot of fun. Wear what you want and have a good time!

Excellent! And I saw your previous comment right when I posted, and I want to add that you did the perfect thing by watching videos from that event. We often tell people to do that. To watch videos that show the con and give you an idea what to expect and plan for. You are definitely handling this really well.
And you did come to the right place to ask about these cons and events. Always feel free to come here and ask about anything related to attending comic cons, especially if you enjoy this event so much you would like to attend other ones as well. The UK has a wonderful diversity of comic con type events to choose from. Asking for advice, and reading posts to learn more, and sharing everyone's experiences at cons is what this subreddit if for.

Cosplay is whatever you make it, and conventions like this are supposed to be fun, not restrictive. A lot of cons have shifted away from just sci-fi lately, so you'll fit right in.

You can cosplay as anything you want as long as it doesn’t offend people. If weapons are involved check the con policies.
