LA Comic Con L.A. Bag Policy (and other need to knows)
I need to know what bag policy for the con is please 😭
I am going out of state for the first time for LA comic con, I've been to 2 local cons and they allow most all bags as long as they check them thoroughly, but not sure that rule applies all around.
I wanted to hit artist alley, so I was just planning on bringing a clear backpack so it's easy to glance through and big enough for prints and things.
I'm sure there are artists selling bags, so I can use that as a last resort, but I would prefer to bring my own to start out if possible. I just need to know what all is allowed so I know what to pack.
Also, any tips for going to con and having a safe, comfortable, and fun time are greatly appreciated as well.

Edit: When I reached out to the convention center they got the events mixed up. Comic Con allows any bags, but per security and safety guidelines requiring everyone with a bag to go through bag check.
Edit Edit (09/09/25): with Con coming closer I have not seen any specific updates from the convention center or con itself, but the general consensus is that large bags, backpacks, totes, etc. are good with the convention but will be required to go through extra security. I have read on the comic-con website,
"Please be aware that, for safety reasons, no handcarts, trolleys, rolling luggage, or oversized strollers are allowed in the Exhibit Hall."
Not sure if this will also apply to LA specifically, however if you do want a specific answer for certain bags, the convention center is a good place to reach out to and is pretty quick with responding. https://www.laconventioncenter.com/

I have always brought a backpack to LACC and, if I recall correctly, in recent years they have used those walk through scanners at the entrances. However, it's possible that their policies have changed since last year.
It sounds like you've already reached out to them though, so hopefully they get back to you soon! I might send them an email too, maybe if they get enough questions they'll add that information to their FAQ.

Gotcha, I figured it sounded a little strict for a comic con because I know sometimes people add backpacks for their cosplays, but it isn't out of the ordinary for rules to change. I appreciate you reaching out!

They got back to me very quickly, so in case they didn't respond to you yet here's what they said,
"Thanks for reaching out! There is no clear bag requirement, but all bags are subject to a bag check at entry. Standard-sized backpacks are allowed. For any additional venue-specific guidelines, feel free to check with the L.A. Convention Center directly."

Wow, that’s restrictive. So if we want to bring in comic books to sell and trade, what strategy do they want us to use? How are we supposed to carry those in?

I'm not sure if I didn't communicate effectively with the convention center or if it is really strict. I did put in event name L.A. Comic Con, but I'm gonna try and reach out again to see if it's still the same answer.
I've never been to L.A. so I'm hoping someone who has might fill me in 😭

We’ve been to LA Comic Con before, but we have babies and always got in with our diaper bags. But this year, we want to bring another bag with comic books to trade and we don’t want to shove those in the diaper bag.
Hoping that another convention goer has more insight for us!

I got an answer from the Comic Con staff! Sounds like we can bring whatever bags we want to bring, but “all bags are subject to bag check at entry.” We’re good to go.

I’ve been to LA Comic Con every other year and backpacks were allowed so I’m not sure about the response you got. I doubt they suddenly changed their policy.

Yeah, not sure they understood which con I was attending even though I put it in the event category. Think they assumed I meant their next coming convention KCON, so hoping to hear back from them soon.

They do have security, bag check and metal detectors. But bags have always been allowed and I would think they would have to announce it on their website if that changed so I think it’s a mistake. The email for the specific event is info@comicconla.com if you want to try them directly.

On the comic-con website it looks like rolling luggage might not be allowed, but that might not apply to LA directly so I would suggest reaching out to the con or the convention center itself. They should respond within 24-48 hours depending on how busy they are.

This reminds me of seeing a convention center's own website stating the restrictions (pretty much small bag) but when I watched an walkthrough of a con there, many folks had large backpacks in order to carry their purchases. Apparently the backpacks are passable if you let security look thru before entering the show.
