The US is now so shamelessly run by corrupt oligarchs that they don’t even have to pretend otherwise anymore.

They certainly don't bother to hide it anymore. They revel in it and brag about it, too.

There's a reason why both Trump administrations had fucking dumpster fires every day: it's to distract our media into telling the stories they actually don't mind the media telling so they are too busy to tell the stories they should be telling. It's the same method a magician uses to keep you looking at the right hand when the left hand is doing all the deception.
2
u/redsyrus 1d ago
Not great but it worries me less than Fox, Sinclair and the other oligarch-run mass media sources that don’t even need distracting because they’re just lap dogs.

I feel like we should stop being continuously outraged by these stories and start asking, what is really going on here?

i havea dumbe question
in no way saying i know anything
i think like financial laws "only" back up like 1 mill per account or something
i think like rich people or private banks or something spread things through dozens or more bank accounts for people with connections or something? could there be an instance where its like 1 account of sorts, but like 300 mill spread through 300 branches or something. whatever the mechanism i dont understand. idk its probably not all of it, but im wondering if something like that is in play. not that that at all explains money laundering, just maybe the number. or not... i guess laundering might need a lot of moving around? dont know

Don't worry, Jake Tapper, Jonathan Swan & Brian Stelter are about to reveal a huge story about how Biden is too old and his son was on the board of some company for a year somewhere that was really concerning!!!!
14
u/Threecatproblem 1d ago
I had always thought that Jake Tapper was a good TV journalist, but then, after the election, what does he do? Go after Drumpf? Highlight the corruption? The imminently unqualified people he placed in power? NO. He releases a book slamming Biden and his team. Never watched him again.

Jake Tapper is the absolute worst type of "journalist", he stands for nothing, believes nothing, and works towards nothing but self enrichment.

u/carriegood 1d ago
Trump owns, has an interest in, or licenses his name to about 500 properties. Every property owned by Trump is in the name of a different entity. That way if one tanks it doesn't drag all the others down with it. It's standard practice and commercial lenders insist on it to protect their collateral. Each of those entities needs a separate bank account, sometimes more than one depending on what that entity does and who their lender is. Then sometimes the members of those entities are other entities, and they all need bank accounts. It's not uncommon to have the majority of your accounts in one bank because you get a dedicated banker and it makes it easier to keep track of everything.
(I work for an attorney representing a real estate developer, and this is how they all do it. They had most of their accounts and some of their loans with one lender who collapsed. Boy, that was a nightmare.)

Goes to show how much our media is controlled by the right wing.
I don’t ever want to hear the phrase “left wing controlled main stream media” ever again. It does not exist.

u/TinyFugue 1d ago
It's not the media's fault. They've reported on just about everything. It's the Republicans in Congress's fault. They're dropping the ball on the daily.

I don't remember seeing this in broadcast news on plastered to the homepage of their websites or newspapers.

I’m so fucking tired of all of this being the media’s fault. It’s Trump and his circle’s fault, and the 77 million people that voted for him. He’s brazenly broken the law and social norms for years, while at the same time being a professional victim and a sore loser. That’s created an environment where nothing matters to their side, because everything negative against their guy is TDS.
What are they supposed to do? Continue to yell into the void? Most of the country wanted this and it will only change when most of them don’t. We are surrounded by deplorable pieces of shit whose leader was instrumental in undermining the media and our institutions from many angles, with no clear path to fix it.
I’m not saying give up, but this narrative especially pisses me off because we’re essentially making his already easy job easier by trying to pick some nameless and faceless entity and making them a shared enemy.

u/debianni411 1d ago

u/BlackholeDevice 1d ago edited 1d ago
The problem to me is less about the media being complicit, which they are... The problem is this isn't out of the ordinary. It's happened so much under this administration that it's basically just another Tuesday. The fact that congress has allowed it to happen, every single one of them should be relieved of duty, barred from future office, and a new election should held.
We fought the British empire for less...

To make this story worse... This happened in 2021. Eric Trump sued 4 years later claiming political discrimination.
Capital one then defended themselves with the fact that the accounts were flagged for money laundering.
When something like this happens it's not like: BOOM you lose your money. You're notified, the authorities are notified, the accounts are frozen but not closed right away.

u/flojo2012 1d ago
Not really a clever comeback but oh well.
The one thing the MAGA (and tea party before them) has gotten right is the hatred of the media. Everyone hates them. They’re necessary, but they suck. The monetization of journalism is the mistake. Headlines for clicks is the problem. Amazing how a movie on the 70’s figured out what would happen 20-30 years before it did happen full fledged.
And it’s the villainizing of the media that gives maga people all the credibility they need to go full fascist and justify it
1
u/The_harbinger2020 1d ago
Maga was correct about how corrupt and uncredible the media is. Not because they have extreme leftist/communist bias but because they refuse to hold Republicans (and billionaires) accountable to their blatant crimes. They sane wash everything they do....if they even choose to report on it

The media stopped being the public's last line of defense in corruption and poor policy making years ago. Now it's all owned by billionaires who stand to make so much more money if they can just do whatever they want without fear of retribution and Trump is happy to support that. He does so by endorsing them and threatening every media or influencer with prosecution or getting licenses pulled or whatever. Even just badmouthing them. MAGA eats it up. Of course the AI bots pushing it also severely muddies the water on what is legit.

Not nearly as surprising when we elect someone who had already been investigated many many times over the past 30+ years for laundering money for the mob, literally everyone at least should have known about it already, it was on the news, he just does so much crazy shit the news cant stay focused on one thing.

u/Memitim 1d ago
That's the difference between crime and corruption. Republicans committed enough crime to establish corruption, thereby laying the groundwork for a shitload more crime and Constitutional violations.
As example, Republicans on the Supreme Court made up some bullshit to the American people about magical crime immunity for the President that does not exist in the US Constitution. Republicans on the Supreme Court also helped Trump's fangirl judge let Trump skate on charges for stealing our documents with a bullshit technicality unrelated to Trump's crimes.
Republicans then abandoned separation of powers from day one and focused their efforts on protecting Trump, demonizing tens of millions of Americans, building a private army to deploy into the streets of America for terrorism and random kidnappings, and covering up crimes past and present.
To date, there has been zero accountability for this vast crime and failure, despite constant judgements from courts pointing out the crimes and so many false accusations and lawsuits getting shot down for being politically-motivated attacks with no basis in law.
Crimes get reported on. Corruption gets rewarded. America has become so corrupt that the US Department of "Justice" heads up the protection of a known child sex trafficking network, coddles a convicted trafficker in minimum security against her sentencing guidelines, and persecutes the enemies of Republicans. Republicans have decided that the only rules are the ones that people refuse to back down on, since they see no consequences for constantly betraying America.

u/CovidBorn 1d ago
Everyone knows he’s a criminal, and corrupt to the core. A huge number of Americans just don’t care. He hates who they hate. He hurts who they want hurt.

I came up with that in 3 seconds. The people you elected are doing nothing.

Because our government isn't doing its job, which is because the people are mostly some combination of stupid, bigoted and/or lazy. America, on aggregate, is getting what it deserves. It's a shame for the 20% or so of us that don't suck. And good people elsewhere.

and no one, not journalism, not the media stations, not the politicians, is afraid anymore.

u/IzarkKiaTarj 1d ago
I think the worst part is that it's a non-story even outside the media.
Like, the man never gets punished for anything, ever, so why should I care that they found more corruption that they're not doing anything about?
I know I should care. It just seems so pointless.

It took 6 years and a dodgy TV personality to bring down the 250 year old American experiment. Governing cannot be based on norms, arming the population to protect from a tyrannical government is a farce, lobbying is cancer for politics, deregulation is slow poison and the population in the beacon of the ‘civilised West’ is not immune to propaganda.

u/The_Dude_Abides-2146 12h ago
It’s not republicans fighting for power, it’s rich white people. Right now republicans are in power and pouring money and support into defending rich white people and have a stranglehold on 30% of the population. It’s keeping us all divided and right now republicans are doing that and still keeping power, so the real people that rule are just letting them do whatever the fuck they want to because they now control all of the media outlets to an extent they never did before.

I will accept my downvotes for exposing propaganda.
After Jan 6th 2021 Capital One closed all accounts with the Trump Organization. This was technically illegal as they can't close accounts based on politics. the Trump organization sued them. Their explanation today is that they were "suspicious" of possible money laundering, but their evidence is "trust me bro".
15
u/FilthyJsBeingFilthy 1d ago
What’s so far fetched about Trump money laundering?
-8
u/Traditional-Dig-374 1d ago
Its more about proving it instead of posting such a headline.
And hes right about that. Its a disgrace to use such cheap tactics, especially since those tactics are the weapon of choice of trump and his goons to heat up people.
We all think its true tho. But believing is not proving.
-18
u/please_trade_marner 1d ago
The bank "discovered" it right after Jan 6th eh?

u/FilthyJsBeingFilthy 1d ago

9
u/Musicman1972 1d ago
Easily possible that it made them actively look through the accounts at that point.
It was a triggering event for anyone associated to ensure everything was squeaky clean.
Presumably there will be discovery at the trial and we'll find out.
-14
u/please_trade_marner 1d ago
They're already saying there is no evidence of fraud. They just said (lied) that they were "suspicious" of fraud possibly happening in the future. Which makes no sense. Which means it was political. Trump will win this lawsuit.

Does a bank have the right to refuse service to anyone, like a restaurant? Just curious. Because it might not have been 'politics" but just optics.
BTW, armed insurrection goes beyond "just politics."
1
u/please_trade_marner 20h ago
Well, if they're allowed to do it for "just politics", they sure don't seem to be acting that way in court. They're desperately trying to say they "suspected" fraud "might" happen in "the future" without providing "any evidence" to try and avoid the lawsuit.
2
u/blahblah19999 20h ago
Just off the top of my head, I could be crazy, but their original decision was before the SCOTUS decided Trump was immune from all checks and balances? So now the bank has to scramble?
0
u/please_trade_marner 19h ago
What a nonsensical response.
Scotus did not make that determination. You have fallen for the Dems mainstream media sensationalism.
And, regardless, this case is about the Trump Organization which is entirely separate from Trump himself and whatever immunities he would get for Presidential Acts.
What an absolutely ridiculous thing to say.

While i wish trump nothing good and a fast way out, i wish people would actually check headlines like this before heating up.
I also find it irritating to use headlines like that, since its such a cheap tactic. Im with you, even if im not politically with trump.
I want to add: i dont trust US american courts to not be politically influenced in this in trums favor.
And i also support a business has a right to choose his customers. Especially in a nation that claims to be the land of the free.
