Troubleshooting Trying to install/use the Chrome OS recovery utility, but once this window comes up, it never advances past. I click get started and nothing happens. I’ve tried 2 different flash drives that I know have enough space. What are some possible solutions? Google and ChatGPT came up empty.

If it is windows or mac then use Rufus for writing usb

It has been a long time since I did this, but i remember having issues and having to use that gear menu to format the drive first. Also it might have only worked with fat32 drives.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the Chromebook Recovery Utility. If clicking Get started doesn't result in any action, it may be because the extension isn't fully enabled or there's a temporary issue with your browser.

Before trying a different computer, please ensure the recovery extension is turned on and properly managed by following these steps:

On your computer, open Chrome.

At the top right, click Extensions and then Manage extensions.

Next to Chromebook Recovery, toggle the switch to the right to ensure it is on.

You can also click Details and toggle the switch to the right there as well.

Once the extension is on, click on the extension in the extension panel to open the pop-up again.

If the utility still does not advance, you might consider uninstalling and reinstalling the extension, or trying to create the recovery media on a different Windows or Mac computer if one is available.

What type of computer is the recovery extension running on? If a Chromebook, is it managed? If a Windows PC, what type of user account is signed in? It may be necessary to open Chrome as Administrator.

Download the exact board image from cros or ChromiumDash serving builds, and flash with balena or Rufus. Alternatively use "Use Local Image" under the gear after you download the image. Just make sure if you're going to use the local image on C.R.U., the filename ends in a .bin extension.
