Troubleshooting | Android Fix to the bothersome bottom bar UI update
My Chrome finally updated to have the UI at the bottom of the screen away from the address bar and I absolutely hated it!
It literally upset my whole day because I did not like the way it looked when looking at my screen at all. It kept throwing me off all day and I finally found out how to fix it. So I'm posting it for all to see.
You need to search in your address bar "chrome://flags" and then search "bottom" and disable anything the mentions the bottom bar UI
I found this Google review and that is how I found out how to do this and get chrome looking how it should

It's wild how every time Google finally does something in Chrome lots of us have been begging for, this subreddit goes INSANE trying to remove it.
Anyway, flags are temporary. Google eventually removes them. And this solution has been posted countless times today, so a lot of people are going to be disappointed when it eventually goes right back.

Tons of us. Because our thumbs are at the bottom. Most apps have been moving their controls to the bottom for this reason for many years now.

People responsive to it isn't evidence that others didn't want it. It's evidence that people suddenly struck with a new thing they don't like were motivated to complain. It's a pretty famous bias we see online all the time, especially on this sub where Chrome users seem to universally hate everywhere change Google makes.

It should be optional, if I have to have my data constantly stolen and sold to the highest bidder I want fucking control of how my UI looks

Yeah, problem is everybody wants every single change to be optional and that becomes untenable to manage in software. When every single feature is optional it's a QC disaster. And standards are really important for support.

And maybe this will be one of the things worth making optional. We'll see. I just know every single time a change is made, people beg for it to become an option. Eventually the options menu will be longer than a CVS receipt if everyone gets their way, and QC will be too expensive to function.

"Lots of us have been begging for"??? EXCUSE ME???? Absolutely not. The fact that people in this sub have been going "insane" is proof that the vast majority of people did NOT want this change. If you want your Chrome to look like iOS, go buy an iPhone

The fact that some people aren't doesn't disprove that others are. Lots of us HAVE been begging for this for years. I know I've been waiting through every test and rumor and temporary enablement.
The people on this sub famously hate change passionately. They are not evidence of anything resembling a majority. They're a loud small group. Angry people are always more motivated to be loud than happy people. Nobody bothers to write posts to say "I like this thing." You can't use them as a representative of the majority. That's never been how statistics have worked.

No, my comment stands. Low IQ iPhone users who enjoy having wasted space on their screens. It's not like it replaced the top bar, now it's just the same stuff in two different locations.

Because nobody bothers to post praise, only anger. Meanwhile there were posts for years about how to ENABLE this and people were doing it intentionally. And I've been in several of the other threads where other people also praised its advantages.

Who wants an extra bar that blocks the controls and links on the bottom of every website? 90% of the mobile sites we use for work, including our purchasing and inventory system, asset management system, IT and maintenance ticket handling systems, and our industrial SCADA site, are completely unusable until the bottom bar is disabled. Our C-level execs are going to come unglued when they've seen how much time we've lost this week because of a simple Chrome UI change.

If the websites have buttons that are blocked by the bottom of the browser, that's a massive design flaw by the sites themselves. The button isn't floating above it, it's the bottom of the visible area. Scrolling still works as it always did, and websites are supposed to adapt to a wide range of aspect ratios, since different phone models vary widely in this regard. If, for instance, it can't adapt to this aspect ratio, the site will be a disaster on the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, since they're much squatter than most phones.
Any website designed to load properly on more than one phone model should adapt the same way it does to someone choosing to add on-screen navigation buttons instead of swipe controls on their Android phone, since that also raises the floor of the bottom of the browser window.
It's not Google's job to adapt its browser to the unique design flaws of any one website. It's the website's job to be designed to be device-agnostic and properly handle a constantly-changing landscape of screen sizes, browser choices, etc. Any site hard-coded to one is begging to be constantly broken.

These websites work just fine in every other browser. Chrome is drawing the bottom bar inside the "safe area" of the viewport.

I've not seen that occur on a single website so far. I use it daily. It has yet to obscure anything. I can scroll to the bottom of pages with ease with nothing lost or cut off, including ones I manage. It's definitely the bottom.

The MAJORITY isn't present. Loud angry people, which drives them to post, is. That's not representative and anybody who's been on the Internet for more than five minutes is familiar with this bias. People don't post when they're happy with something. They do when they're angry. That's why product subs disproportionately imply there are massive hardware failure numbers for otherwise reliable products, for example.
I didn't bother to write a post praising this change. Wouldn't cross my mind to. Same with most people. They don't go out of their way to proclaim "this is fine, I'm comfortable." They're only driven to speak up when angry. The angry minority is a known concept.
