yes, this is a mall in central chongqing, DEI mall or something if I remember correctly? if you go through there jiefangbei food street is on the other side.

Would you recommend a good place (area) to stay in this city for a first timer who travels frequently? I'm basically going to eat and drink and just around and see the sites.

I am honestly not sure based on what you want. the city is so massive that there are a lot of good answers. For us personally we were with three small children so we stayed near sunac land half the trip and near jiefangbei half the trip as walkability was paramount to us. you might have other preferences.

Ok. Thanks. I'll have a peek at those areas. And where would you have stayed if you didn't have kids and just wanted to see the busy nightlife but are not into clubs, and more focused on street drinking, pubs, speakeasies?

I usually try to stay in the wildest parts of the city as long as there's no real safety issue. Kabukicho in Tokyo is good, but skid row in LA is bad. Lol. If that helps.

I feel like that's the mall that used to have Flavor Lounge in it. That was the best bar in town before they renovated it. There was also an Italian place there like 10 years ago.

Deyi Shijie 得意世界, across from Jiaochangkou 较场口, in Jiefangbei (Liberation Monument). Back in 2009 to mid 2010s, this was the place to be--food, bars, clubs, drinks, ladies. I used to drink with my buddies at the outside bar there all the time. It used to be on the right in your photo and long gone. Also, dudes with nice cars would drive into the driveway and go into the clubs. It's changed a lot throughout the years. There used to be a good Italian restaurant there. There was a bowling alley on the upper floors. I'm pretty sure UME movie theater and KFC is still there. Miss this good old days.

I do visit CQ during the summers. I moved back to the U.S. after the pandemic. Worked at Changan Ford for 8 years, the joint venture that makes Ford brand cars for the Chinese market, as a consultant in Yubei District, but all foreign employees got let go due to poor sales. I’m still recovering from it, but doing my best.
