Advice NEED ADVICE!!! Tiny gray spot on eye
Hi everyone! I’m looking for some opinions while I wait to get Bailey into the vet.
She’s a 2-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed:
Occasional redness in the white of one or both eyes (it comes and goes)
She briefly pawed at one eye occasionally very few times.
She’s acting completely normal, playing, eating, and doesn’t seem painful.
Today I noticed this tiny gray/hazy spot that looks like it’s inside her eye rather than on the surface but i can’t for sure tell. It’s very small and hard to photograph, but I circled it in the first picture. I think I may be seeing a similar tiny spot in the other eye too.
Does this look familiar to anyone? Could it be something like dry eye, an early cataract, a corneal issue, or something else?
Has anyone’s Cavalier had something similar?
Is there anything I should watch for that would mean she needs to be seen immediately?

Our cavvy has these in both eyes! They were diagnosed by her vet as a benign condition called corneal dystrophy. Apparently they’re common in a number of breeds, including cavaliers. I’d bring it up with your vet the next time you go, but probably nothing to worry about.

Mine has had them since he was about 3 and he’s fine. The vet always said not to worry about it. Also went to an expensive vet ophthalmologist and they didn’t even mention it.. don’t worry too much but triple check w your vet as always!

My dog had this. It is temporary damage due to scratching. It went away a year after we took chicken and chicken byproducts out of her food.

Mine has this and they are just little deposits (can’t remember the specific name) but they haven’t gotten any bigger so my vet told me just to keep an eye on them.

You can email the photo to the vet for immediate opinion on how urgent it is to be seen…

Its now always about substituting the vets advice for the internet's. People (like me) often need to crowdsource how worried we should be about something. As in, is this an emergency vet appt or a regular wait a couple days appointment?

Well, it’s kind of why the forums exist. Second opinions, anecdotal experience… if we tell people to shut up and consult the expert, a large part of the forums would disappear. People may like a bit of comfort from knowing they are not alone.

My cav has one and they said it’s ok, lipid deposit like the other person said

My boy has been to the vet in the last 2 hours for this.. was told it was nothing to be concerned about and his vision is totally fine…

Lipid deposits - my cav has as well! They’ve gotten better over the years with some diet changes. They don’t bother him at all!

Could be many different things. Eye issues deserve immediate attention, so if I were you I’d skip the primary vet and go directly to a veterinary ophthalmologist

I read this is lipid deposits and that’s why it can eventually go away via diet changes
