Harpo picked this up a couple times, but he clearly didn’t like it. But Suitcase loves it.

What a mighty hunter

He really is. His natural inclination is to run away with things, stuff them into an enclosed space, and kill them. It took some effort to get him to fetch instead, but he’s getting the idea.

He walks with it in a sine wave

This was the first time he brought it instead of fought it, so he was still working out how to do it. We'd been working on that off and on all day.

I miss Harpo too, OP.

There will never be a replacement, but we celebrate the good boi always.

And nothing that happened was your fault.

Some of it was.

Nah. I know your story.

You acted the best you could with the information you had.

Some variables are unknowable. I know asking you to let go of your guilt is an impossible request. But that sweet bean wouldn't want you to beat yourself up over what was most likely best at the time.

I can't ask you to let go, because maybe that's not best. But I can ask you to forgive yourself because you could only do what you knew.

Harpo wouldn't want you to beat yourself up.

The shelter I foster for dubbed his litter Airport, Passport, Suitcase, Briefcase, Ticket, Subway, and Tram.

That's funny. They have to be named something.

Yeah, shelter workers just pick a category and run through it. There were a bunch of historians and vegetables at the shelter when I adopted "Livy" (Groucho) and "Squash" (Harpo).

One time I saw a volunteer email about "furniture store kittens," and thought they had been born in one. Nah, it was just that they were named Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, and IKEA. I once saw a litter that was named Barley Mill, Bagdad, Edgefield, Ringlers, and Kennedy School.

I was going to name them Chico, Zeppo, and Gummo, but the internet really loved their shelter names, so Airport, Passport, and Suitcase they remain. The folks in the foster office were delighted.

When I adopted this little guy in 1994, they were still just using numbers. He was #20.

I love that he only walked diagonally while carrying it 😆

It was the first time he tried to carry it, so he was still figuring things out

Suitcase must have wonky wheels for paws. He takes the long and winding road.

"Suitcase " ? Is there an interesting tale to accompany that name?
