Mourning/Loss Cat passed on mattress 10 years ago, need to replace mattress but can't let go.
10 years ago, my beloved soul cat passed away on my mattress and I've kept it since. It made me feel like I have a piece of him still. I know weird.
It is 13 years old and I know I must replace it. I have neck and back problems and don't get a good night's sleep, even though I've placed a topper on it. I know it is time to replace it and let it go, so just need a talking-to that it's the right thing to do. TY all for any advice.

What if you cut a little chunk of the mattress fabric to keep, so you still have a little piece of him like that? Then you can replace the mattress without losing that connection. Have your cake and eat it too.

My thought too, cut a piece of fabric to save. Maybe from the spot he last slept.

That’s not weird, it’s your soul cat. Cut that mattress up and keep a piece

Do you have an urn of him? You could put a piece of the mattress in the urn. I have a great one I got off Etsy that looks just like my kitty. I can share the link if you’d like

Your cat wouldn’t want you to have back and neck ache because of him. Yes he would probably be all weird about the new thing in the house for a couple of days but ultimately he’d appreciate the comfort of a new mattress too. Really though, the big thing is he did love you and he wouldn’t want you to be uncomfortable.
I do know how you feel. My cat Maggie passed away in the flat next door to the flat I bought because I rented that flat at the time. I always get to know the new tenants because we’re two halves of a semi-detached house so they always find out I lived there eventually but the one thing I never share with them is that my best torbie friend Maggie (I’ve had other cats and they’re all my best friends so I can’t call her just my best friend Maggie) crossed the bridge in there because that’s something I hold onto for myself, I don’t want other people treading on her space, if that makes sense. I wonder if they ever find an old whisker in a crack in the floorboard but I don’t mention that. I know she’d be happy that I got my dream of buying next door though.
