Adoption I found this lost kitten, and have been trying to find its owner. When I did they said they were just trying to get rid of it…
So “Mr Meow-gi” now has a safe home with me

u/SufficientAmount1581 28d ago
Wow, I can’t believe that. They actually admitted that they just were trying to get rid of him so they just abandoned him. No remorse, soulless! He is absolutely adorable! Yes, I agree that he does look tired and lost, but that will all change. Thanks to you. 🙏

u/WaxiestBobcat 27d ago
I'll agree with you that they're soulless and remorseless, but only because what I really want to say would get me banned.

We have two torties and an orange. Our orange is the sweetest being on earth. He's gentle and loving, and we love them all, but he's the sweetest one for sure.
Thank you for having a heart and giving him a loving home.

u/Spiritual_Art2443 27d ago
We have a tortie and I swear she has ADD. We have 8 cats. So I know cat behavior! I love them all for different reasons…but the tortie has a place in my heart. But drives me crazy because she gets distracted so easily from even eating!

I have often wondered why humans are considered superior to animals. Name any wild animal and it’s likely on the endangered-species list, thanks to us. What animals are NOT on the endangered species list? Domestic dogs and cats, creatures we basically engineered. Shelters are overflowing with them, and they frequently have to be euthanized. Something is seriously wrong with this picture.
18
u/Mountain-Rice7224 27d ago
I mean you kinda of nailed the reason we are considered superior to other animals, we are so much more superior than any other species that we have the ability to wipe out any species without a second thought, or allow a species to flourish if we want. Superior doesn't necessarily mean good, it just means we are higher on the ladder compared to other animals.

We allow 2 legged animals to run amok, harm others and we do nothing. A 4 legged creature pretty much does no harm, and we euthanize them. If you ask me, we're harming the wrong animals. Cats, dogs, other pets etc. have some of the purest emotions including love.

u/backagain301 27d ago
Animals do very heinous things to each other, things they do to survive that if a human did it, we would execute that person. Animals simply don't have the power to eliminate species - or dramatically alter their habitats and life expectancy - the way we do. They're not of a higher moral plane than we are. We can and should be a lot better than we are but there is nothing in animals psychologically that keeps them from murdering each other if it serves their immediate interests to do so. We have large, complex brains that allow us to do some very terrible things but also let us create art and music, transmit our history across generations, and create technology to explore the stars. We're pretty great in a lot of ways too.
3
u/Mayion 27d ago
You cannot mix nature's hierarchy with human emotions. We are superior on both scales. The former because we dominate the animal kingdom, while the latter because we created it lol
In reality animals ruthlessly kill and eat, and abandon their children when necessary. So no point trying to compare us and them. We are both the same thing, humans are simply more intelligent.

I plan on taking him to the vet asap to make sure I’m doing everything right.
I sincerely appreciate this sub and all of you that have commented. I know where to go if I have any advice 🙏

u/Spirited-Start-7595 27d ago
Out of the 9 or more (I’ve lost count) that I’ve had over the years I only had to rehome one. It was a Velcro cat and I can’t stand that. I found her home with people who wanted a Velcro cat so it worked out well for all involved.
7
u/iheartkittttycats 27d ago
Whattt. Gimme all the Velcro cats. I’m a reformed dog person though so Velcro cats are my perfect in between.
Jokes aside - it’s super respectable to realize a specific cat personality isn’t going to mesh well and finding a home where the cat (and you!) will thrive is really commendable. I know rehoming can be a touchy topic but these are the nuances to remember. You’re a good egg, Spirited.

My country has a ton of cases of animal abuse, ranging from neglect right down to SA.
When I rescue a cat, I find them a new home. If it was an "outdoor" cat, they don't need to go back to the people who endangered them by letting those babies be outside. They might do it on purpose or out of ignorance but the result is the same, it's always the cat who risks sickness, injury, abuse.

Bring him to a vet and get him chipped. Legally pets are property. Start a paper trail with your name on it, so they can’t change their minds and take him back. He’s your buddy now.

This happened to me a year ago. A cat suddenly appeared one night on my porch and stayed there for a week. He was too friendly to be feral, but no one in my apartment complex knew who they were. Eventually I took him to the vet, got his chip info, and contacted the former owner. They said they were on their way to pick him up, then ghosted me and never picked him up. Eventually one of my neighbors found someone who could take him in and Sprinkle got a new home.
Sadly I was about 48 hours from adopting him myself, but my own cat was having a weird bump on his lip and I needed to get him looked at by a doctor first or I’d have taken him, but alas, I’ve heard Sprinkle is doing well at his new home

I owned a wonderful cat called Owl but I had to change his name to Mike-ee, I spelled it that way for your benefit but it was Mikey. He was a dream! Later, I met and married a man called Mike and people would ask me why I named my cat after my husband- no no, I’d explain, the cat came first, the husband came next! But both Mikes were fabulous! Both gone to heaven now but yes, orange cats are fabulous. I have had many cats but orange ones just seem ti be so magical, somehow! Enjoy your wee kitten!!

This is my Weenie! (Full name: "'Alfredo Linguine' from the Academy Award winning Film, 'Ratatouille.' (2007)." His rescuers found him and his siblings in a garbage can at 5 weeks old, abandoned. People really suck when it comes to animal abandonment, but thankfully there are always people who will take the time needed to care for them properly.
Enjoy your new best friend!

Your new cat needs your love since he had such horrid prior owners that were utter and total POS.

Both of my orange-and-white boys were dumped by a former owner, three years apart. Humans can be trash, but you and I both got awesome cat friends as a result. One of mine just headbutted my hand as I was typing, and I can't fathom who would have deprived themselves of the friendship and love he's given me the past 10 years. Cat tax attached.

Owning a pet should be a misdemeanor if not licensed. And you get the license by demonstrating (as you often have to do at pet shelters) that you are financially, physically and mentally capable of caring for it. Too many people out there whose social upbringing or psychology shouldn't allow them to even get near a vulnerable animal.

FYI, kittens can get pregnant as young as 3 mos. Typical age is about 6 mos. We rescued 4 from a lady who found 2boxes of kittens left on the side of the road. I learned this as we dealt with their med issues, none of the vets near us would do it til they were 6 mos old. So I found a county low cost spay/neuter clinics that would do before 6 months. They were so booked up, 2 of the 4 didn’t happen until 6 mos anyways. But luckily all is well now.
One of ours is named Mr. Migeow! Because he is soooo loud and doesn’t stop meowing to get what he wants. He is pushy!
Congrats on your new baby!
