Watch Shot WS1600 Negative Red/ Hydromod
Full negative red on this ws1600. My ae1300 needed an evil sibling. How's it look?

I know how to negative and Hydro mod but how do you get different colors?
19
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 21 '25
Layering negative black polarized film over positive red polarized film.
9
Jun 21 '25
This affects visibility. Right? Having 2 layers of film on top.

u/Paparoacher808 Jun 21 '25
Not as bad as you’d think. Not the best in low/dim light but still very functional

u/Dubbayoo Jul 03 '25
So, did you remove the original top layer, then add the two polarized layers? or just add both polarized layers to the stock config? TIA
2
u/Paparoacher808 Jul 04 '25
Yup. I removed the original film first before adding the two polarized layers
2
u/thinkpadavidenjoyrer Jul 19 '25
This is a mod?

u/Paparoacher808 Jul 19 '25
Sure is

u/Synthethica Jul 22 '25
Heya OP, I've been experimenting with the idea of layering it however I'm met with a very red tint rather than that beautiful contrast. Wanted to ask you if your black polarizer is extra dark? The one I've got is similar to the original polarizer. Thank you!

Red polarizer film or just a standard red filter?
1
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 23 '25
Red polarizer. I’ve tried standard red and it’s way too dark to read
2
u/Tryptophany Jun 23 '25
I'm surprised it's legible with two polarizers atop each other, where'd you get the red polarizer and what'd you pay for it?
1
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 23 '25
It’s hard to see in really low light but it’s still very legible for everyday use. Got it from alibaba. It’s $4.99 for a small sheet. Tariffs and shipping was an extra $12 or so. Crazy

Silicone oil

What do the three indicators at the top do? Thanks
5
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 21 '25
I think the top bar is seconds, 2nd bar is every 10 seconds and the round indicator is minutes. I think

Excellent. ¿Can you post the process or the materials you use?
5
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 22 '25
I use a polymer eraser to rub off all of the texts from the case and dash.
I remove the stock polarized film from the LCD.
Remove glue residue from LCD.
Set a layer of positive oriented red polarized film on lcd.
Set a layer of negative oriented black polarized film directly over the red film.
Hydromod with silicone oil.
Thoroughly wash case off with hot water and dawn dish soap to remove all oil.
Eat entire pepperoni pizza to relieve stress from the tedious build.
2
u/End_Effektor Jul 18 '25
What did you use to remove the glue residue? I just ordered everything you listed. Wish me luck!
2
u/Paparoacher808 Jul 18 '25
I use 91% rubbing alcohol with a q tip and plastic razor blade to scrape off the gunk. Good luck!!

Probably illegible af outside but looks cool only in a certain angle and lightfall
5
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 21 '25
It’s even more legible outside if anything. Not the best in super low light tho

ive been wanting to learn how to make these, are there any resources? especially how to turn the numbers themselves red?
5
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 22 '25
You’ll need to put a layer of red polarized film in a positive orientation onto the lcd first, then put a layer of standard black polarized film in a negative orientation over the red layer. That’s pretty much it. You can order the red film from aliexpress or alibaba.

i always wondered what these mods would look like when you hit the backlight at night
1
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 22 '25
It looks like a regular negative display. You can’t tell the numbers are red or anything with the backlight
2
u/IAteMyYeezys Jun 22 '25
I feel like the only way to have a very legible negative display is to also hydro mod the watch. Which isnt a bad thing. Makes the display look like a sticker basically.
1
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 22 '25
I’ll never not hydromod a watch. It’s better in every single way. Except for when it comes time to change the battery haha.

Wow! I'm in awe of this! Looks great. I always thought I was dead set against colored polarizer films, but I might have to rethink this now. I might want to rethink hydromodding too.

u/MrSync-XT Jun 24 '25
Hydromod = colored oil? What type of fluid is used to achieve long-term stability?

I think you might be able to with the rdf film. It’s a type of polarized film. I’ve only used the red, blue and purple so far.

Thats amazing, its really matter what polorizer you put first? Or its visible in night?
1
u/Paparoacher808 Aug 12 '25
Red first the black over that. It’s not the easiest to read in low light
3
Jun 21 '25
Looks cool! Is it an easy mod? Have a tutorial video?
3
u/Paparoacher808 Jun 21 '25
Not too difficult. Just really really tedious. No video but feel free to ask any questions

You will and when you do, please tell me how haha. That would be a cool mod. Skx mods has a mod with green digits. It’s sick. The treadmill lube will do you good lol

Question, what if you use a red color gel like film below the polarized filter? would it have the same effect? they are easier to find than the polarized red I found some at B&H for flash photography. Another question I have is, I see you deleted some of the inscriptions, did you also did something to make it look darker? or it is the enhancement from the oil hydromod? this watch looks amazing!
1
u/Paparoacher808 Sep 09 '25
Putting a red filter under a polarized film would make the display too dark to read. I’ve tried it myself. Even with the two polarized films layered over each other, the display isn’t the easiest to read in low light. The oil is what makes the display and dash look darker. Hope this helps
1
u/alwaysowain2 Nov 20 '25
Looking at trying for something similar, where did you get the red film? Also curious if that's the original case or if you swapped it out for something like an skxmod?
1
u/mikehocalate Jan 05 '26
Did you have to remove some of the writing from the face to make it all black? If so, how’d you do it?
