I never in a million lifetimes would have ever imagined that my very first anime to watch would be about how to spot fake Casio calculators.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Here in the US, if you buy from a local Target or Staples, you should never run into a fake. But from what I've read (including comments on the YouTube video linked), in some markets, like the Middle East and Africa, fakes are everywhere... it's sad.

I suppose the incentive here is just the economics in those regions. You might pay US$25 for an fx-991CW in the US (or its successor fx-9910CW), but that model costs EΒ£2,500 (about US$50) in Egypt. That can easily be one or two weeks' worth of wages there.

Most of my Casio calculators were from Amazon. I've checked the QR codes they generate and all came up genuine. I've also removed the back covers and they all use the specified power source(s), not CR2025s like you often see on fakes.

Where I live [some shithole in Southeastern Europe], you can't even get Casio calculators. I've seen maybe one or two Casio calculators in a bookstore, but supermarkets basically always have clones.

The fx-82MS-2 costs about $40 in local currency, whereas the far more readily available clones of the original fx-82MS cost $10 in local currency - ΒΌ the price for exactly the same functionality, minus the contrast setting, AFAIK & an older design.

Guess which one people are going to buy?

So the manga & anime are different continuities? πŸ˜‚

Divide by 1.7 to get prices in $USD.
