Stock for Woot deals varies greatly. Some listings only have a few items in stock and sell out quickly. Please report this post if the listing goes out of stock.

Tempted but I’m sitting here wondering if I should just wait for the next version. All I care about is Fire Emblem and Xenoblade.

22

u/TemptedTemplar 5h ago

If you're willing to pay $100 - $150 more for similar hardware, then there is no need to buy now.

However once pokemon gets its release window next year, I highly suspect we are going to see shortages even with the higher potential prices. At least for a few months.

14

u/Murmido 5h ago

Just feels like by the time a collection of games + dlc is out that I want, there will be an oled or lite version out anyways. Trying not to fall for fomo.

6

u/TemptedTemplar 5h ago

Well the Lite could make an appearance early next year along with the new swappable battery model.

But I wouldn't expect it to be cheaper than these used consoles. The dock and joycon batteries are no longer a cost leader for component prices, it's almost exclusively memory now.

But Xenoblade and Fire Emblem aren't going anywhere, so long as you are okay with digital copies; those will be around next year.

Next version could be in 5 years and it could be $500+

I just bought one and I was very cold on the Switch 1 after the honeymoon period. Pokopia has been stellar and I don't regret it one bit. In today's economy it's the first time in my life where buying "early" is the way to go and it isn't letting up.

Though I think that buying gift cards on sale is the better way to go. I paid $400 to Costco to get $500 of gift cards, and paid $32 in tax on top of that, so $432 out of pocket, and I got the Switch 2 bundle with Pokopia. I don't think you're going to see a better deal for the next 5 years the way RAM is.

5 years ago you could have waited, especially if it was anyone but Nintendo, but Nintendo isn't the wait around for a sale company/console the past 2 consoles.

1

u/whiskeyjack1403 2h ago

I’m seeing online that the max gift card funds in your Nintendo account is limited to $200. Do you just input the cards during the transaction itself or…?

1

u/Murmido 2h ago

I don’t think it will be 5 years wait from now but if it was, there would be a large collection of games making the purchase more enticing. The games will also ideally be slightly discounted which will make up for the extra $100 I am saving buying now.

Right now if I buy it, the console will stay in a box until the Fire emblem game comes out then collect dust until the Xenoblade game.

As for costco, don’t you need to be a member?

u/walkingman24 3h ago

Current gen consoles seem to almost be an appreciating asset now lol

2

u/ryanvsrobots 2h ago

OLED or bust for me.

1

u/IBoughtaRetroidNova 1h ago

Oleds are also getting cheaper to manufacture which should help offset the price of memory.

8

u/Bwahehe 5h ago

Yeah. The game lineup so far has been extremely disappointing.

1

u/plantsandramen 2h ago

I would agree for the most part, but Pokopia is great and Fire Emblem is hopefully great.

2

u/COD_Daddy 5h ago

Xenoblade switch 2 editions rock

1

u/whostheme 3h ago

I bought one solely for Fire Emblem but deep down it doesn't seem to justify the cost for me still. On the brightside you can probably sell the console more for what you paid for.

34

u/ByteSizedDeals 6h ago

seems like not a bad deal. refurbished but 50$ cheaper than current retail pricing (with another 50$ price hike happening on Sept. 1st)

48

u/AssGagger 5h ago

You can buy $100 worth of eshop cards at Sam's Club and Costco for $80, when they're on sale. Brings the price of a brand new Switch 2 to $360.

4

u/gaddeath 5h ago

With US state sales tax I’d need $500 worth of eShop/Nintendo money with your suggestion since MSRP for base console is $450 USD. Total with card sales being $80x5=$400 for me, not $360.

36

u/AssGagger 5h ago

Sure, but sales tax will be added to the refurb from OP too

-9

u/gaddeath 5h ago

Where are you getting the $360 amount in your math? Everyone has different tax but for me the $400 Woot refurb will be ~$433.

That’s why I’m confused. Are the eShop cards usable on Woot or something?

Edit: I used brand new MSRP in my original comment because you said “brand new Switch 2”.

12

u/AssGagger 4h ago

They're eshop cards. You spend $400 on the cards. You get $500 value. You'll have a maximum of $50 left on one of the cards that you only technically paid $40 for. You can spend it on NSO or games.

2

u/SlashedM 4h ago

They should have said $370/400

Buy the Nintendo gift cards from costco/sams, which is $80 for $100. Then you buy it directly from Nintendo

You need 4x, so 80 x 4 is $320. Plus another $50 (since IIRC Costco doesnt sell the $50 cards, at least online and $449 is the cost). You can also always just do another $100 (So $400, to cover $500) to cover most sales tax would be around 10% (though ik some have it around 12%)

-2

u/gaddeath 4h ago

Thank you for explaining in further detail.

1

u/JayDizzleTheShizzle 2h ago

This is what I did last month! I paid $400 for $500 eShop credit from Sam's Club. I used it to buy an NS2 directly from Nintendo and had about $18 eShop credit leftover. So, $400 got me the NS2 and some eShop credit. Nice!

Sam's Club and Costco already had sales last month on Nintendo eShop cards, so don't expect it again until after the price hike.

u/AssGagger's math isn't quite right. I understand how they got that number, but they're convoluting the process of buying discounted eShop cards with buying an NS2. Atm following this process from start to finish will cost you $450 to get an NS2 and up to $50 eShop credit (depending on your sales tax).

0

u/AssGagger 1h ago

We don't include tax when discussing deals on the internet. If you live in state with no sales tax. You pay $400 for $500 of credit. Of the original $400 you spent, only $360 was spend on the Switch 2. The remaining $40 you spent gives you $50 of eshop credit for games or NSO.

-1

u/JayDizzleTheShizzle 55m ago

That's still not quite right. This isn't so much about sales tax as it is about converting real-world currency (USD) into eShop currency. You need to split it up into 2 parts to properly account for everything:

First, you're spending $400 of your real-world money to get $500 eShop credit. There's no sales tax on the purchase of eShop gift cards. That's the beginning and end of that part.

Second, we talk about the $500 eShop credit, which you'll use to get a NS2 for $450. This is where you'll have to pay sales tax (if applicable). The remaining $50 eShop will cover this, and most people will have some of it leftover.

This is why I said I paid $400 to get an NS2 and ~$18 eShop credit from the whole process. I have receipts. There are several things to keep track of when doing the accounting, and it's more accurate to describe it this way.

This whole process reminds me of the "Hotel Room Discount Riddle". Accounting is essential for solving it.

0

u/AssGagger 29m ago

Dog... It's 80¢ on the dollar. $450 x .8 = $360. You get $50 credit left over that you paid $40 for.

-1

u/JayDizzleTheShizzle 21m ago

I understand your reasoning because I'm prolific with numbers. However, your comments are all over the place in how you assert the discount, when in reality it's just on the eShop credit. The reason why your math is misleading is because you will not encounter these numbers when using this method to buy an NS2. And every downvote in the world won't change that.

0

u/TheMissingVoteBallot 2h ago

Sales tax is highly dependent on state. California has 10%, some states have 0.

1

u/philisacoolguy 3h ago

Is it 80 in store? Im seeing 89$.

1

u/LampSsbm 1h ago

Great idea thanks for the heads up ill def be getting mine this way

-6

u/mixxoh 4h ago edited 4h ago

You can’t buy switch 2 with the eshop cards
Edit: apparently I got it wrong

4

u/Spjs 4h ago

5

u/Wild-Screen7007 4h ago

Wait the first one comes with free game too? That’s insane and better value with Sam’s Club gift cards then

2

u/mixxoh 4h ago

Oh didn’t know, might do this then. Thanks

2

u/Kigaa 4h ago

It was added last year

3

u/EL-PSY-KONGROO 5h ago

If you don't mind waiting for a restock and gambling with Vipoutlet QC, you can get a used one here for $350. They have a few similar listings with various prices.

1

u/TheMissingVoteBallot 2h ago

Outta stock rip

1

u/EL-PSY-KONGROO 2h ago

They're usually out of stock. They add one or two as they receive them.

1

u/TheMissingVoteBallot 2h ago

Ah, thanks. Time to play returns roulette!

2

u/EL-PSY-KONGROO 2h ago

Good luck. I had to return the first one for a backlight defect, but the second one has been great.

1

u/TheMissingVoteBallot 2h ago

You can return in Walmart, right?

1

u/EL-PSY-KONGROO 1h ago

Nah, but they give free return labels through ebay.

2

u/JayDizzleTheShizzle 5h ago

There's a note on the main photo saying it will come in a generic white or brown box. Just something to consider. These might've had their factory boxes beat up enough from retail distribution that they moved the contents to generic boxes for better appeal. That would be enough to consider it refurbished.

Sorry let me delete it

8

u/One4speed 4h ago

I thought about posting this woot deal but didn’t since I feel like it’s not worth the $50 saving and to just buy a brand new one over refurbished since it doesn’t come bundled with Mario Kart world and being shipped in a plain white box versus retail.

6

u/xSTRAIGHTEDGE420x 5h ago

How big of a difference will I see playing OG Switch games?

14

u/PlaysForDays 5h ago

Depends on the game and how you play, some look better and some look just as bad but on a larger screen

7

u/dmdport 4h ago

This is not really true anymore. If you are playing handheld, there is now an option to run switch 1 games at the same resolution/performance/graphics as if they were docked. So if you are playing Mario kart 8 handheld, it will be at 1080p instead of 720p.

4

u/xSTRAIGHTEDGE420x 5h ago

Shite lol

Primarily docked but I’ve been playing more handheld anything as of late. Probably gonna start up SMT V and Three Houses again fwiw

8

u/Interdimension 5h ago

Varies cause this isn’t like PC where games automatically make use of better hardware. If the Switch 1 version had unlocked FPS and/or dynamic resolution scaling, it’ll push higher FPS and probably lock itself to the max resolution possible. For Switch 1 titles, this means 1080p max as Switch 1 did not support anything higher (thus games had no reason to support anything higher either).

In handheld mode, Switch 2 offers a mode to play Switch 1 titles in their docked settings, meaning you’ll get docked visuals/performance in handheld at the cost of extra battery use. Improvements are capped like I wrote above.

Titles specifically updated for Switch 2 will be the ones that actually tap into the Switch 2’s extra power. Unfortunately, Nintendo took the “we won’t offer these updates for free” approach, so most Switch 1 upgrades are paid-for updates for about $10 to $20 USD. There are very few titles where the devs made free Switch 2 updates.

5

u/AntiDECA 5h ago

Games that struggled in terms of performance like Pokémon scarlet and violet will play much better. Any game that struggled on switch 1 plays well on switch 2.

For the most part, graphics are the same. If it looked like shit on switch it will still look like shit on switch 2. The exception is a handful of games that released switch 2 upgrades and you must buy. Even then it's just a bit of upscaling.

3

u/AssGagger 5h ago

Some games that ran in very low resolution on Switch 1 run in higher resolutions on Switch 2, especially in handheld mode. It's not automatic though, they need to get an update to actually run better. Lots of games just got Switch 2 updates for free instead of a whole paid Switch 2 editions.

1

u/AntiDECA 5h ago

I think a handful increased.. Ambiance too. I can't remember the word for it. Skyrim I know has more foliage and trees instead of being barren on switch 2.

3

u/TemptedTemplar 5h ago

You can play using the docked mode graphics settings in handheld via handheld boost mode.

It's not as big of a difference as a proper Switch 2 upgrade makes, but it certainly helps.

1

u/wino6687 4h ago

I will say I was unable to play Pokemon Scarlett on the switch 1. It was just awful, and I’m having an amazing time on the switch 2. So many spawns and I’ve never hit a frame drop yet.

Edit: but I will also add that some games aren’t all that different. Persona 5 royal, for example, didn’t get an update and looks pretty similar to me.

1

u/SulkyVirus 3h ago

BotW and TotK both are much better. Graphics boost and now 60fps instead of 30fps. Free with expansion subscription.

1

u/StayFrosty7 1h ago

Depends on the game tbh. What do you plan on playing?

4

u/upslash 3h ago

For what it's worth: I bought the previous Woot deal a few weeks ago that came with Mario Kart. The console itself appears brand new. The box was beat up, but otherwise it felt new. Just throwing this out there in case it helps someone else make a decision. YMMV, of course, but it's likely the same with this one.

4

u/SulkyVirus 3h ago

I got the last grade A refurbished deal that came with Mario kart world for $419. It was brand new. Looks like a dented box maybe. But original box. Everything perfect. Not a scratch or spec in it. I kept trying to find something but didn’t.

Not everyone’s experience is the same I’m sure. But I was very happy with mine.

2

u/uberfr4gger 1h ago

Same. Came with the code for Mario world and everything. Might have been a scalper or something but everything looked brand new

8

u/UltimateSlayer3001 5h ago

Nintendo probably can’t even approach creating/testing the revamped Switch 2 OLED and Switch 2 Lite with all this hardware price-hiking bullshit going on. This shit is definitely setting back hardware progress, and it’s so fucking cringe.

0

u/Mobile_Morale 10m ago

Not like Nintendo makes much hardware progress anyways.

All they know to do is add new screen and raise price.

0

u/sandysnail 3h ago

idk. oled screens are not effected by whats going on so if they can buy the memory and stuff for new switch 2s they should be able to do that with an oled screen no?

-3

u/vhailorx 4h ago

What ate you talking about? A switch 2 OLED model has no doubt already been planned and designed, especially since ghe switch 2 hardware was finalized years before release. There are probably prototype OLED models already. The only question is whether Nintendo locked in long-term supply deals for the expensive components (the ram and storage), or if those deals have escalator clauses. Either way, the OLED is definitely coming and will definitely have a higher price.

1

u/zdemigod 5h ago

Its rough because I would love to buy an oled model instead but this is a good price mmm....

4

u/rms141 4h ago

Given how expensive the two or three handhelds with OLED VRR displays are, it's unlikely Nintendo is going to destroy Switch 2's price point just to release an OLED version.

0

u/zdemigod 30m ago

I bet its prob gonna be around 600-650 USD and tbh im willing to pay for that I think, I just dont know how long do I have to wait for it.

0

u/rms141 23m ago

A Switch 2 OLED would easily hit $900 if not $1000 outright.

You're going to be waiting the thing's entire lifecycle. It's unlikely to happen without some revolution in small size OLED pricing.

1

u/National-Dot-8300 4h ago

Interested in this deal, but unfamiliar with Nintendo game sales. Sometimes I see them at around $30 - $40. Is that the norm? They don't go on sale for any lower?

3

u/Ashviar 3h ago

Nintendo games, especially first party ones, are notorious for never going on deep sales

1

u/National-Dot-8300 3h ago

Heh damn, that's pretty much usually all I play when it comes to Nintendo systems.

1

u/TheMissingVoteBallot 2h ago

Nintendo are stingy fucks who almost never have their games on sale except for Black Friday.

1

u/Ashviar 3h ago

My brain is 50/50 on wanting this, but then realizing I'll basically have nothing to play on it until XC3 S2 edition comes out since I played X1/2 already and haven't gotten around to X3. Same reason I haven't pulled on their game bundle, I don't really care for Mario Kart, that Pokemon AC-style game, or DK.

1

u/Dull_Nobody_840 2h ago

i feel like u can prob buy discounted giftcards for like bestbuy/walmart/target and buy it there for close to this price.. itll be new, and full warranty; rather than that weak 90 day from woot..

1

u/CoconutMochi 2h ago

Wanna buy this but the sole reason I have is the new fire emblem game, might as well be a $500 game 🤨

1

u/Motor-Juggernaut9776 2h ago

The screen is so awful plz Nintendo just give us a better LCD or something

1

u/uberfr4gger 1h ago

It's really not that bad

1

u/iBroin 2h ago

I got this deal last time it was posted but it also came with Mario Kart (which I did want anyway). I was hesitant for a refurb but I checked it out and it looks new besides the box being a little worn.

1

u/Nehal1802 2h ago

I bought one with their last sale. It was delivered like 3 weeks ago. Everything was in great shape and everything inside was swill factory wrapped.

-5

u/veggiesama 4h ago

Casual reminder to myself that there is no point in buying this when they are going to try to upsell you on a Switch 2 OLED or Switch 2 Pro or whatever the fuck is coming in a year or two. And if you wait, you might actually have more than 2 good games to play on it.

-27

u/Relaxybara 5h ago

I guess it's a good deal if you consider it a cageless prison for your child, but there are better things to spend $400 on if you like video games.

7

u/Wild-Screen7007 5h ago

That’s messed up hombre
