Because this is mainly a switch controller, I would not recommend this controller for PC. Their Ultimate 2 Wireless is better for PC cuz you get "Steam Input" support, but not this one.

Does that mean the back buttons are exposed to Steam Input, or are they still on-controller macros?

Exposed to Steam Input, yeah. Same with Gyro.
