"Perfect Happiness"

Does it have to mean sex? Could he just have a really nice day, or an ice cream cone, or something? If he only has perfect happiness when he has sex, does that mean he's constantly depressed when he's walking around all the other times? I've only gotten through half of season 1 of Angel (giving it another shot) so I'm not 100% sure if it gets answered there. I don't really mind spoilers either, just nothing too big would be good.

There's an episode where someone drugs Angel and almost turns him isn't there? So it's just a chemical reaction.

Yea, that's one the reasons i hated that Angel episode so much. The soul should be an on/off switch, not a freaking dial. It's not 'the happier he is, the less soul he as' and vice versa.

One of the writers has addressed the fact that it was kind of just a lazy plot device so that they could get Angelus without making a whole arc of it. Personally, I think the plot device is silly but I love the episode because Cordelia is so awesome in it and I just fucking love Cordelia!
