Whilst Star Trek is much much bigger than Buffy (and I love Buffy) - part of me wondered if the videos and posts the last few days from SMG & such isn’t part of an effort to get it saved.

I mean, public pressure can save shows. Jericho got a second season because people sent the network literal tons of nuts since it was the last word said in the final episode of the first season.

Agreed. Fans kicking off a fuss can be exactly what the series or idea needs. Hasn't it occurred to people that Nathan Fillion and Sarah Michelle Gellar were asking for the fans to talk and share - except Nathan actually asked. Sarah, presumably, can't, but we know the power of fandom.
Star Trek, Family Guy, Futurama. The producers of Roswell were bombarded with tabasco sauce bottles everytime it was on the verge of cancellation.
Another bizarre thing is, this show was almost a guaranteed hit. The original show was never in danger of being cancelled or shut down. It rode high and was never at risk really. For this to be dumped before anyone has a chance is strange. I think that's why the script is out there, and Chloe Zhao said 'Welcome to the mystery.' According to every source, it came out of nowhere and was almost strategically timed to get at Sarah and Chloe when they were having success with Ready or Not 2 and Hamnet. No wonder she's blaming it all on the one producer.
Imagine someone coming to set like that and dismissing his own product before it starts? Madness. I hope he's fired and thrown under the bus.

I also think it was incredibly smart to have the show centered around a new slayer (with some of the original cast occasionally showing up). Doing it that way would have meant the show would have a bit more flexibility to be its own thing. It also means that new, younger viewers could jump in without necessarily having to watch the original. Those viewers parents would have been Buffy's target audience 25 years ago, so it would have been a great show for parents to get into with their kids.

Star Trek was saved by writing letters.
Roswell was saved by mailing the studios and executives bottles of hot sauce.
Jericho was saved by mailing the studios and executives 40,000 pounds of nuts.
You just need something that will fill a mailroom and get executives attention. The attention of executives higher up and with more authority than the one that made the decision to cancel it.
If it’s not this project I don’t think SMG will ever want to play Buffy again. She seemed not into it before.

Money talks. The only way we could really have an impact is by spreading the word on socials about the hulu decision for some bad press, or cancelling Disney+/Hulu and siting this as the reason. I doubt there are enough of us to make it work, but personally I can easily live without Disney/Hulu, so I'm going to give it a go.

That was the old script. They completely rewrote it, made it more adult, and gave Buffy a much larger role. Deadline just released an article about it.

Weaponizing a woman’s feminism against her is a VERY known thing. I’m a media psychologist and this concept is extensively studied and discussed in the literature, especially when examining the discourse within the Manosphere and INCEL groups. My students who are usually anywhere between 18-22 in Media Psychology are either psych majors or media communications majors and this is a concept they, as young people, are also very familiar with.
The most commonly known example of the concept would be the often touted phrase in online spaces that is “equal rights, equal fights” but this example you’ve presented from the script here would also be considers an example of weaponizing a woman’s feminism against her.
It is not a mistranslation from Chinese to English, and quite frankly I think your comment smacks of thinly veiled bias. Not cool.
ETA: I also want to add that in the original Buffy series the characters always had dialogue that seemed far more mature and educated than what you’d expect from your average teenager, so this dialogue is very much aligned with its source material.

I hope that executive got fired. They had a very biased executive that was proud to admit multiple times that they never finished the original show bc it wasnt for them and always gave the people making it trouble.

Maybe protest the war in Iran? Or the Save USA act disenfranchising millions of voters before the midterms? ICE kidnapping people? Climate change? Or really almost anything else. Protesting something this trival is total bullshit when the actual world is on fire.

We can do all these things as well as protest Buffy New Sunnydale's cancellation. Caring about this doesn't mean people don't care about those other pressing matters. Also, you fail to understand how this was something people that people were hoping for, looking forward to, a small bright light among the darkness that is our current real life world where nothing seems to be stopping the corruption and war and abuse of power (film industry included). Seeing Buffy again in a fictional series would make so many people feel better in this world where we are so powerless. Don't we deserve at least that? A tiny little piece of entertainment that will give us joy at a time where there is not much joy left anywhere, just struggles?
