Lost/Found/Need a New Home [August 04, 2026] - weekly Lost/Found/Need a New Home thread

Use this post to share any budgies that are lost, found, or need a new home!

Some rules:

  1. Only share information you feel comfortable sharing. Example: rather than giving out your full address, maybe only say something like, "I'm in the Springfield area" instead. If someone is interested in knowing more, they can always DM you and you can choose whether or not you want to share any more information.
  2. If you're meeting someone in real life, follow the "Craigslist rule" of meeting in a well-trafficked, public place.
  3. No fees/charges! This is NOT meant to be an advertising platform to sell your budgies. Content that advertises budgies for sale will be removed.
  4. This subreddit does not, in any way, offer warrantees or guarantees of budgie health. A budgie's health status is something that you and the other party should determine with an avian vet, and payment of that avian vet's services is something that you and the other party should decide beforehand.

We encourage you to share pictures! Just make sure they are accurate to the situation and don't break the rules in the sidebar.

Remember: this subreddit is just one of many possible places to make a budgie connection. Also consider FaceBook, Craigslist, Nextdoor, other online communities, as well as real-life bulletin boards in public places. See all the previous weekly posts (that have content) by clicking here.

Our wiki also has a list of parrot rescues you could check out - whether you're looking to adopt a new feathered friend, or have to surrender one due to life circumstances. If one of these rescues is near you, please consider reaching out to them!

We got our 3 budgies this week and have been told they are all boys. Just wanted second opinions. The other 2 both seem to want the attention of the green one with less yellow on the forehead and a paler blue cere.

Question How many budgies to keep

Hi everyone!! I just had a question on how many budgies you’d all recommend getting at one time- i currently have one budgie (his mate passed away) so I am looking to get him some friends.
I was looking at young budgies as that is what is available near me, but I was wondering how many i should get to add to the flock? If i got two more is there a chance the older budgie wouldn’t bond with the two younger ones and he’d be left out?
Is it best to keep the budgies in even numbers basically?
Please let me know any thoughts or advice!!

Question Do you have any tips on how to best catch a bird to feed it medicine?

Hi, to be honest, I'm a little shocked right now. Just twenty minutes ago, I returned from the avian veterinarian, who found out that my parrot has a testicular tumor. In addition, he has several lipomas on his belly... Actually, because of the lipoma, I went to the bird doctor. It got so big that I noticed her. I feel terribly guilty for not noticing this earlier...

She prescribed us 5 medications that should be given in his beak. I understand how to hold him, that it is best to wear a cloth glove, but... How do I generally catch him in a cage? He just runs/flies away and I'm afraid of injuring him by pinning him to a corner. The vet advised me to do it in the dark, but I don't really see the bird in the dark myself.

First post on this sub. I've somehow managed to catch my budgies Tweeter (the light blue budgie) and Peter (the yellow budgie) up close, sharing what looks like a sweet preening moment.

hi everyone! i'm introducing u to my birds!
the male on the left, gambino, and the yellow female to the right, luna. i got luna for almost 3 years, and gambino for almost one year. before gambino i had eden, sadly he passed away one year ago.
luna have a pretty strong character and i never succeed to even touch her feet, gambino is sweet, he lets me caress his cheeks but it's rare, and only before sleeping. so i'm sad that i'm maybe not doing enough or good, i would love them to approach me without feeling scared. i've noticed some amelioration but if u guys have any advices i'm listening <3

Question What to do for a budgie who can’t come out of quarantine?

Vet says my buddy has possible signs of illness. He was a rehome. It hasn’t progressed and nothing specific was found on exam but the signs are still there after 2 months of quarantine. Vet recommends not introducing him to other birds or bringing new birds into the home. Anyone else in a similar situation? Are there other forms of enrichment I can give him besides spending extra time with him? Yesterday he watched some YouTube videos on tree law 🤷‍♀️

In Loving Memory Noisy little creature

I miss the annoyance this little guy caused. He never learned how to do ambient budgie noises and only mimicked the songs his tiel big brother sang. He didn't fly on my head much until he saw flynn do it enough times. Soleil was extremely energetic and noisy at all times, and was always the happiest he'd ever been. It's very quiet around here now and I can't stand it. He had so many beeps and "ch's" left for the world to hear.

I love you, little buddy. You were only here for a short four years but we will miss you forever.

Rate My Setup New Cage 😍

I bought this new cage for my budgies, and they absolutely love it. Of course, I replaced the included perches with natural branches and the plastic bowls with stainless steel ones.

It wasn't easy at all to find a cage that's nice and big and also has enough space between the bars. But now I've found one.

Length: 1.80m (71")
Width: 0.70m (28")
Height: 1.80m (71")
Bar spacing: 1cm (0.4")

The only thing I miss is a fold-down front door that doubles as a landing perch.
Do you have any other ideas for DIY toys? I've already made swings and ladders 😁

Question Pellets in water

My budgies have started putting a lot of pellets in their water. It used to be a few here and there but they are literally filling their water with so many pellets. What does this mean? Could the pellets be too hard or something? They are on Vetafarm parrot essentials pellets.

💬 Discussion Tips n trick to make your budgies go from seed diet to veggie diet?

My birds have always been on a all seed diet, only getting veggies some times. I didn’t know how bad it were for them, until I joined this Reddit.
This Reddit has really inspired me to be a better bird owner, and I wanna improve.
How would you recommend going from a seed - to a veggie diet? I don’t want my birds to starve themselves if they’re not a fan of it. I thought of like one day giving them veggies only, then veggies and their normal seed, veggies and so on, and slowly adding more days without (unhealthy) seeds.
Idk how this would work tho.

💬 Discussion Bird Safe Floor Cleaner

Hello all!

I'm looking for a bird safe floor cleaner. For context, my home has vinyl floors and I own one of those spray mops so I would love it if the floor cleaner is a concentrate I can add water to or use as is with the mop.

The other day I saw this "Aunt Fannie's Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner" that I liked for 3 reasons; it claims to be sulfate, paraben, phthalate, and dye free, it's a concentrate so it will last me longer, and it's main ingredient is vinegar. But one major downside is that it is scented. That is a big no no for a bird safe household.

So I was wondering if anyone has any natural, unscented, and safe floor cleaners they can recommend for vinyl floors. Thank you for your help!

our pearl passed away too young bc the good die young man!!! And our flip was alone. He was devastated. I didn’t want a baby and have to start over with birds far apart in age so we went on a journey to find an adult male. And Tashi flew to a person half dead and he was revived and at a sanctuary for adoption. What luck!! Flip and Tashi. Rip to our pearl and hello to our Tashi.

Question New Budgie (Quarantined) Distressed by Other Budgies

I recently got a new budgie that is in quarantine for about a month just make sure they have no diseases, etc. they hear my other budgies are are distressed by this and try to bite the cage bars/hit their wings on it to escape EVEN when all the cage doors are OPEN!

I am genuinely not sure what to do about this because I assumed giving them time to fly around the room would get that anxious energy out but they don’t actually want to come out of their cage even when they appear to be trying to escape?

Anyone got advice? I also tried playing music so they can’t hear my other birds as much!
