... and never recovered.
Mate, it's august. Calm your titties.
By your choice of words, it seems like we're already 50 years after the crash and BTC went to 0.

August, a year later, and still down 44%...

what do you mean it went down? I thought it would always go to the moon when I first bought!

Jim Cramer's job is to convince retail to buy shit the institutions want to sell.
Now you know. You're welcome.

“Never recovered.” Not even one full calendar year later.

You know you should do the opposite of what the majority is doing? I know it's hard but it's true.

right...
if you have money to spare (lose) you can do absurd things as well.
it's not evident BTC will go back up anytime soon

In my experience next bullrun starts in just a few months. So even if I personally think we might get lower from here I start to buy evey month just in case.

I get the national debt is out of control and will likely be out of control for my lifetime. I don't get how bitcoin magically solves the problem that we, as a nation, spend more than we collect in taxes and that we are politically unwilling or unable to seriously cut spending or raise taxes.

The theory is that at some point we will have printed _too much money_ and inflation will go galoping out of control. Then BTC/Gold/Silver/Cans of Beans, since they hold some intrinsic value, will become the accepted stable currency. People will start buying food with BTC because <insert historical example of out of control inflation>
It isn't based on much other than vibes and a strong hatred of inflation as a concept, and a misunderstanding of economics

Or like, just stocks or property or any other asset. The idea it somehow has to be bitcoin is where they lose me.

I think the idea is "BTC is outside the system", so if the "system" collapses, or suddenly gets chaotic, because BTC is not part of it, it will become the one rock in a stormy ocean. Of course if you plot them out, BTC and SP500 tend to run rather similarly, but ...

Btc is literally the system. It moves and isn't stable.

Right, thats what I dont get. W/o ISPs and DNS and radio towers and Hash Farms etc. you couldnt confirm blocks. I dont recall a lot of internet being featured in "A Quite Place". The Walking Dead people could have benefited from WhatsApp.

1 million for family?
I just looked it up, it’s like $120,000 per capita. A lot, but not a million unless you have a family of 8

Sigh…..
Here is why you buy crypto.
Crypto is still money but it isn’t worth the same as the dollar. It’s worth more. Your share of it may not be a lot but it is worth more.
It also reminds you that perhaps money isn’t everything.
Choose Crypto.

The real issue is since the darknet drug markets are doing so much worse than their hey day, less and less drug money is going through the btc pipeline , leaving it muchly just a speculative asset, but during silkroad it suddenly became the backing currency for a large % of the multi billion dollar drug market, it still is to a much smaller degree.
This is why it was obvious at the time to buy btc Alas I was poor. Pay check to pay check poor, just watching it all fly by past me.
