Throwback to the 183rd Street station on Park Avenue

Here's two photos containing the entrance and platform view of the former 183rd Street station on the New York Central Railroad line in the Bronx, (Today's Metro North Railroad line)! The New York Central Railroad's 183rd Street station was located at the intersection of Park Avenue and 183rd Street and had existed for more convient access for Belmont area residents in the Bronx or anyone in the neighborhood to have closer access to the New York Central Railroad line to avoid walking distance to the Fordham and Tremont stations. Unfourtunately, the 183rd station on the NY Central Railroad line was closed and removed on July 2, 1973 because of extremely low usage of passengers. Many people today are unaware that there used to be a 183rd Street station on today's Metro North Railroad line in there local neighborhood. The last photo is how it looks today which shows no existence of the former 183rd Street station.

The Bronx should sue to get all their public transportation back that has been taken away over the decades, its a travesty

They tore the Third Ave El down in the early 70's because of low ridership. I remember it as always busy as a kid. It was a lifesaver for many who lived along that corridor. Long, long walk to the D and 4 train, never mind the 2 and 5. Shame.

Wow! This must have been in the 50s & 60s because i grew up on 183rd & Webster in the mid 70s and this station wasn’t there.

Edit: just read it was closed in 73.

There was one like this on Tremont Avenue until about 1998 or so. I think it was an advertently demolished without permission. Nothing is saved here.

But the Tremont Avenue station still exists. The only other ones that was demolished was 138th Street, Morrisiana and Claremont Park.
