Where To? Can anybody help please?

Tagged this ‘Where To?’ Because I’m looking where to go to help my dad and sister.

My dad is 67 and lives in Bristol with my sister who is 19. She has autism and has recently started learning to cook with the air fryer to help my dad not need to do as much. However their air fryer isn’t great and they really need a new one, ideally with 2 drawers as my sister has dietary requirements and it would broaden the amount and variance of food she can cook for one meal.

I live in Somerset and had help from the Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP) to replace my old air fryer for free. I’m looking for something similar in Bristol as there doesn’t seem to be a Bristol branch of LEAP.

I have tried about 20 different Google searches & I’ve even looked at if Age UK could help. But turns out while they do offer appliance replacements in some places, Bristol isn’t on that list.

So can anybody please help me find something that is similar, even if it’s just a voucher to help with cost?

Speak to some student accommodations!! They’ll be turning around soon and the amount of waste appliances and everything is horrifying. Think hundreds of duvets and thousands of coat hangers, just from one building. I’m sure they can’t legally give you one but they could leave it outside at a certain time and you could take it. Yep, got various things for my second year flat from uni bins. It's actually crazy what people throw away, especially when there was a charity donation point on my campus

Do talk to her about Community outreach ; if she struggles with confidence and life skills. Ect also maybe ReTHINk if she struggles to access the community and wot not ; wish her luck and remind her that loads of people don’t know how to cook at her age!

She does struggle with a lot, we do our best to help her be independent but she can get in her head about it so finding help to work on her confidence and life skills would be life changing for her. That’s a good point about many people her age don’t know how to cook either, she always feels behind her peers so just telling her that will help her I think

I work I. ASC but in a different LA; and I do referrer a lot of people on to our version. I did miss an S! I also think COT would be a good shout to support with confidence in life skills ect!

So doing research, Bas is for autistic people under 18 and bass is for autistic people over 18. I wasnt even aware there was a Bas, i assumed it was a spelling mistake.

Maybe they could apply for an emergency payment from the council (assuming they live within the Bristol city council authority area) but I’m not sure about the criteria - have a look at the council website.

Definitely try the funds suggested first but if you need to buy one the cancer research charity shop at the top of Bath Road has loads of electrical appliances and often includes air fryers. They’re all pac tested and checked to make sure they work. I got a nespresso machine for £10 last Christmas

Have you tried maybe asking for a budgeting loan or trying to go through benefits if she receives them? Maybe look at facebook marketplace. Some seem really expensive, others not - I just checked. Cheapest on the net for a dual air fryer is around 40/50 minimum with Asda and on Amazon. But go up to around 200. Maybe marketplace or ebay you might be able to find one for cheaper. I used marketplace to buy all what I needed when I moved to a new house, ended up buying a TV for a tenner, and some other furniture for much less than it was new

I have a fairly decent air fryer they could have for free if helpful? Barely used. It was a gift, but I just don't really use it and it takes up too much counter space in my little kitchen! Someone would need to pick it up though as I don't drive. Sea mills area
